    Thanks, that clarifies a bit.

    Tube Amp Problems

Upon reading up a little more on the Fender DRRI, I'm a little confused about which tubes drive the reverb circuit. The 12AX7 I had mentioned before only made noise when tapped while the reverb circuit was engaged, however I have read that it is one of the 12AT7 tubes that drives the circuit...

    Tube Amp Problems

As far as I can tell, the problem is coming from two of the four 12AX7 tubes in the preamp, one of which was the "industrial grade" tube he put in. The tube that was initially in the socket for the reverb circuit will occaisionally microphonically feed back when tapped. Swapping the tubes...

    Tube Amp Problems

I just spent a couple minutes poking around with a pencil eraser, and here's what I've come up with: Tapping on one tube is very audible through the speaker of the amp. One more is only slightly audible. Another is microphonic, but makes a warbly sound when tapped and is only audible when the...

    Tube Amp Problems

I recently had one of the preamp tubes replaced because it was making a high-pitched whine while I was playing. The guy who replaced it put some industrial brand tube in though, unfortunately (Pro/Comm). I'm wondering if I should just replace all the preamp tubes. Could a bad preamp tube be...

    Tube Amp Problems

I think you misunderstood me. When I say I have the volume at 4 or 5, I don't mean 4 or 5 o'clock. I mean 4 or 5 out of 10. I'm not diming the amp. Nor do I consider a reverb setting of 2 out of 10 to be "high reverb."

    Tube Amp Problems

I bought my first tube amp, a Fender Deluxe Reverb RI, a little while ago, and I'm having a couple problems with it. First, whenever a turn up the volume past a certain point (around 4-5 for humbuckers, 5-6 for single coils) and turn my guitar's volume on full or play hard so a lot of signal...

    The Black Keys Drum Sound

Yeah, because a low-quality, mono youtube video is totally an accurate sample of their sound. Mike: https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=261264 Plenty of tasty info in that I can't be arsed to retype.

    Tascam 688

Thanks for the responses. I've been lurking in the forum for a while and this is my first legitimate question. I'm guessing swabs would work better than the pads because the cassette heads are considerably smaller than the reel-to-reel heads. But I'll give both a try. How often do you...

Looking for feedback on my first serious attempt at recording

It sounds like you're having very rough sex with a barn animal a quarter way into the track. I stopped listening.

    Tascam 688

I just picked up my first piece of recording gear, a good-condition Tascam 688. The guy I bought it from included a set of Roland DM-10 monitors and a couple pairs of monitoring headphones. He also gave me some blank tapes, although they're unlabeled and I'm not sure if they're the right kind...

how to mic a grand piano

Considering how he said he's recording a grand piano and not a keyboard, I'd say no.

    Out of phase lav mics

Gotcha. We had been doing that before, but it's sort of hard to control sometimes when there's a lot of sudden movements. Oh well. Thanks.

    Out of phase lav mics

This isn't quite a recording question, but since I don't know of any live sound forums... I'm helping with sound reinforcement with my school's musical, and we're using wireless lav mics usually placed on actors' heads. I've noticed that when two strong-voiced performers face each other and...

    Sennheiser E835 VS Shure SM58

Based on that example (mainly the acoustic guitar), I found the e845 gives a little too much low end, but still sounded nice. Nothing a little fiddling couldn't take care of. SM57 was my favorite tone for the instrument out of the whole lot. Of course, those few examples aren't the best...
