    Recording vocals in stereo?

Yeah that's a well used technique but it's 2 mono mics. It isn't a stereo miking technique. I doubt I'd pan those tracks very far left and right either. Stereo miking is more about capturing the sound of the instrument in the room and all the reflections it causes. If I wanted a wide...

    Recording vocals in stereo?

If it sounds good, it is good. You can't argue with that.

    Recording vocals in stereo?

It sounds like your recording is a bit out of phase. You can try and get rid of the swirling(or increase it) by moving one of the tracks forward a little. It's usually not a sought after sound on a vocal track.

    need some general advice

The best advice I ever got was to buy the best gear you can afford. I don't mean you need to invest in Neumann mics etc. What I mean is it is better to buy one or two carefully chosen pieces of gear that will get the job done well and be something you'll want to keep later on down the line...

Will a mix done at low volume & sounding good be so when played loud ?

I usually mix at low volumes, around conversation level. I especially use this volume level to check balance, eq, and overall tone. However, I always turn it up a good bit to judge reverb and delay. It's too easy for me to use too much ambiance at lower levels and it really becomes obvious...

Can I Expect To Retain Audio Quality By Doing This?

Arguably adding any processing to audio degrades its quality. You are suggesting putting the audio through an additional d/a then a/d conversion and in between that running it through a Behringer mixer. I would expect a large degradation in quality. However, if you are doing this because...

recording drums when tracking whole band live

I've done a lot of live tracking, sometimes in less than ideal rooms and without baffles and boxes for amps. First of all, make sure that those cab boxes don't ruin your guitar tone! You might consider pointing the amps away from the drums and using those boxes of yours to shield the drums...

    Zoom H4n Question..

Hi, I have the older Zoom H4. It works fine as a live recorder as long as you accept that it's going to sound like a bootleg. I often use it as a crowd or ambiance mic for multi-track recordings. If you are hoping to capture the full sound of the band then placement is everything. You are...

Mixing with the recorder man drum technique?

Try sending the overheads to a convolution reverb with real room/hall/studio convolution loaded up - use a high pass filter on the reverb channel at about 150hz. This can add a lot of depth to the drums. You might also try some parallel compression to add a bit more meat.

    Pre compression and compression settings

And what if your highest signal peak is -10dbs? Presets can work great on things like reverbs, chorus effects, and synths but there is no way you can reliably use presets with a compressor (or an EQ) because it entirely depends on the original signal. Compression can seem hard to understand...

You guys are gonna love this...

All the mixing decisions will be made by the user who chooses which presets to use in which combinations. If you are putting together demos of songs for bandmates or whatever then maybe the presets will get you where you want to go. If you are releasing material seriously then it probably...

You guys are gonna love this...

I read this thread before I saw any specifics about the product. So I went and checked out the review posted here and the website. It looks like the EZ mix thing has to be applied to each track. It offers presets and presumably uses basic compression, EQ, and maybe some effects like chorus and...

    How to spend money...

Recording gear is important to a studio of course, but a studio isn't simply an equipment list. The room(s), skills of the engineers, and instruments/amps available are a big part (perhaps bigger part) of the studio too. Let's face it, the high end recording gear is great for accurately...

    How to spend money...

Buying recording gear is easy. The question is does he have a great sounding acoustic space available to track in? IMHO it would be quite silly to try tracking drums and a horn section in an apartment regardless of what recording equipment has been bought. A pro studio lives or dies by the...
