I wouldn't buy new. Why not find a good ebayer with thousands of refs who specializes in used guitars? It's even safer (in my opinion) than buying new from a store, cause anything "wrong" with the guitar will already be discovered and either mentioned on the page or taken care of..... ;)

Play the rhythm guitar to a click (or very simple drum pattern). Then record drums. Then rerecord the guitar and go on recording the rest ;)

Well, I've got no experience on any of the above, but it's a very interesting thread and I have to admit that I do agree a bit with everyone of you. First of all, the thing is, what you guys quoted as "fucked" is not exactly as you got it. Because this guy here is putting in a lot of time...

Well, I was thinking, there are so many songs/albums with a decent or even unreal (:D) production etc, but there are some songs where production (by which I actually mean anything except for the song and performances, i.e. effects like the classic Cher thing, a characteristic drum sound etc)...

Yeah, obviously a pro producer wouldn't post a PT session or something, but I'm guessing there has to be some good producer (semipro, I guess ;)) who will just make a nice GOOD tutorial with a couple of examples.... And that seems a GREAT idea.... I'd love to find something like that...... ;)

Lots of $$ is involved, just it's money spent rather than money earned.

I use AKG K171 Studio and I'm perfectly happy with them, except for some sound leaking into my mic when I'm recording with them on - beeps and clicks and stuff like that. But they offer pretty good isolation and sound for a very good price. I wanna buy K271 for this purpose ;)
