I'll check my td-3 settings to see if perhaps those levels are higher than yours, causing it to peak. Also, are you running just one cable from the mono out of the brain into your 1180, or stereo out with two cables?

If it's anything like the BR-1600, which is the machine I use, you can turn on the phantom power to operate the condensor and still plug in the dynamic mic without a problem.

I experience similar noise with my electric... on many of the effects it sounds like a loose, rattling spring on a snare drum overiding everything else. To the point where I've been bypassing the BR-1600 effects and using my POD. I'll try moving away from the unit and see if that minimizes it.
