    guitar micing............

I am with him on that. For just a little over 200 you can get a Sm57 and a MXL v67. The v67 is about a hundred bucks and is really a flat mic that I personally have found to trump a lot of more expensive mics in shootouts. It also could double as a mic you could throw onto the amp as well, or...

    another versus question

Might want to consider the KEL HM-1s...just read the thread on it. All postive. We are thinking of picking up a pair. -Deng

    another versus question

It all depends. If you accumulate money pretty quickly then yes it would be worth saving. If not then it is really up to what you are looking for out of your mics. For example, the MXLs are a pretty bright mic whereas the C4s are surprisingly flat. If you are gonna tend to record a kit that...

    603s on Toms

I just find it easier to post a topic then finding a drum set and then setting everything up. Anyway, thanks for comments, sounds like it work nicely. -Deng

    603s on Toms

Hey, I've used the MXL 603s as overheads for drums and on accoustic guitar but have never put them on a tom. What do you guys think of this? Supposedly the 603s and the Mk-012 sound very similiar and I've heard the Mk-012 does wonders on toms. Anyway, haven't had a kit around to test it on so...

    Channel Strip for Vocals

Hey, I was wondering what was a good channel strip to use for vocals. Right now we are using the 'ol mic into preamp into sound card. I would like to have some more options with the incomming signal so that is why I'd like a channel strip. I haven't started looking at any yet, have any...

    MOTU converters

We use a MOTU 828 mkII and I love it. Haven't had experience with anything else but I've read it is the best in a sane price range. I have no gripes with it and think it works amazingly and is easy to deal with, with the desktop bus mixer. Anyway, hope that helped. -Deng

AKG C1000: What is better for price?

It really depends on the cymbals too. In the world of recording a lot of small time artists with a studio that doesn't have a custom kit that sounds good just for itself, you tend to get a lot of overpowering cymbal sets. The bright just kind of makes this worse. Although this thread isn't...

    Tube Mics & Pre's

I've heard some great things about this one as well. We are thinking of upgrading to this in my studio in the not so near future. If you can get your hands on one your luckier than me! -Deng

AKG C1000: What is better for price?

For overheads I have experience with the MXL 603s and I find them to be way too bright. The cymbals become overpowering in the mix and we usually have to EQ the crap out of the overheads to get the cymbals at the right level. If you look at the frequency response chart this is pretty obvious...

    Tube Pres

Thanks guys, my solution is probably solid state seeing that I can't at all afford tubes right now that are even half worth it. I posted this just to get a better understanding of pre-amps before I go out and buy anything. -Deng
