    Dumbest Song Title

I take back what i said about voodoo in a song title...i played tonight w/ a group opening up for Astral Project...this killer jazz quintet from new orleans...and they had a song called Voodoo Bop... a guy i was in a band with when i was like 16 wrote a song called Suicidal Skater...the chorus...

Best album in terms of lyrics or allround musically.

And furthermore, i don't think there is such a thing as a bad Steely Dan song.

    speed and accuracy

when victor wooten came into town a few years ago, he set his metronome so it sounded on the first beat of the first measure of every four...that was it....and kept perfect time the whole time he played....

    speed and accuracy

anything you want to play fast you should be able to play slow...it's all about developing muscle memory...even with things i can play fast, if i'm warming up i start playing slow....i play very slow chromatic scales using every fret on the bass...(i try to pluck with the same r/h finger i'm...

    It's all in your hands!

i have a 61 P bass and there's nothing i can really do to it to change the sound....it is what it is, and it's a WONDERFUL sound....all it needs is an amp that gives a good punch even in low volume situations....but the tone is fine... i've been shedding that tone for ten years...now all i...

    Just a minor bitching

yeah i think old fender's and ricks have the most distinct and recognizable tones....i think even that the rick is muddier than the old p basses...which is a sound i really like...now i have old Yes bass lines in my head lol.... with the new basses, i also think it has to do with the way people...

    Just a minor bitching

This may sound like an unfair generalization, but has anyone noticed how like 80% of new basses all sound the same? It's almost like a dead dry tone that only seems to come to life when slapped...kinda like a woman!! *kidding* :) I guess it's just personal taste, but i can usually hear if...

    Bass Amp, need suggestion!

Well since most basses are recorded/miked thru PA direct anyhow, most any bass amp will have a DI out...I have a Gallien-Kreuger 400RB and the DI on it takes a quarter inch cable...i used to use an Ampeg SVT-III and that had both a quarter inch jack and an XLR jack which gave me a better...

    Splitting a Bass signal

hmmm...offer to buy him a new jack and then convince your roommate to replace it either for free or for a bass lesson...if the problem persists, get the drummer to do it. because, even if it still doesn't work, you can at least blame the drummer....
