I've read a bunch of discussions, and the Soundcraft and Allen/Heaths are always recommended over the Mackies.
Their pres are supposed to be just a bit better, but the EQs are supposed to smash the hell out of Mackies'.
It does, it's just so old that the color in the numbers has worn off. You can just barely make it out. I took a look at home but I don't remember the number. I'm going to check it out during my next break.
I just picked up a '67 SG and I was wondering how I could authenticate it to make sure it is in fact a '67 SG. Do I have to take it to someone? I looked and coundn't find a serial number on it anywhere..
I'm wondering the quality difference with the converters, and also the difference in the preamps (MOTU has 2, DIGI has 4).
My decision will be either to go with the Digi with Protools LE, or to go with the MOTU with Sonar 3.
Has anybody used both that can offer up opinions?
Every 'pro' I've seen use a compressor has fiddled with the knobs EVERY time. There are never perfect presets (though there are general ideas of how to set stuff that will come with time).
Why don't you track everything to tape and then when you're mixing you can experiment with the compressor and decide what sounds right instead of 'setting and forgetting?'
