I agree with some of what sonicalbert is saying, a lot depends on the purpose of this recording. If you want it to sound as good as possible, then cut the bad kids, if it is just for the parents and their families that are hearing it, i doubt it will matter too much if their pitch is good...

I'm 17, just fool around with a firepod and a few mics. Hopefully I can record my band's demo in a few months just for fun and to put some music out there to give ot others.

I have 3 of the ES57's and they work nicely on my snare. I haven't compared them to the real SM57's however. I doubt there would be that much difference between the ES57 and the SM57 though. You could always buy a bass mic first, that might be easier, unless you want to use the 57 for something...

I would think it has enough volume, but I guess you are the only one who knows exactly how much you want.

Sometimes it is hard to see what you are doing wrong if your technique is a little off, it might be worth getting a drum teacher or something or at least have someone look at your drumming who knows a lot about drums to help you.

I think the huge packs seem to be a waste, because if you are starting off, you can get by just fine with only 3 or 4 mics, get two overheads, then a bass, then a snare mic. That way you can get 4 good mics instead of 7 mediocre mics and you will never want to upgrade the good mics.

why dont u just use drumkit from hell if your gonna use the samples from it anyways...

Yea Glen the other day I noticed the different things such as mud and crunch that were listed at the bottom, those kind of helped as well. It is a good guide to see what things I could try to change when EQing. I don't need to use it as much lately, and I bet I will eventually somewhat memorize it.
