Thoughts on this mix of our original rock tune

The song has everything it needs to be a good song, but the mix needs a lot of work. I'd start with the bass and drums, because that seems to be the weakest part of the mix. Drums: I'd start over completely. Start with the overheads and bring in the close mics to give them more power. Stick to...

    epitaph

Yeah, I had a really hard time finding something to drive the song a little more. Everything I tried just sounded to busy/cluttered. I think it probably would have benefited from being sped up just a little, but it's a little late for that kind of change. I suppose I could add more business to...

    epitaph

ok, I updated the link above. I took off the limiter, because I didn't want that to be the thing everybody focused on. I also made some minor changes https://www.dropbox.com/s/pp0emsk41xvp6j7/epitaph%20pre%20master%202.wav.mp3?dl=0

I... have no idea what that's supposed to mean. I though he wasn't a fan of pushing songs loud.

The best song you'll hear in the next.....

That's possibly the tightest doubling I've ever heard.

The best song you'll hear in the next.....

Are you doubling the vocals during the verses? That's the only time I really notice it. (0:25 - 0:50, 1:10 - 1:30)

The best song you'll hear in the next.....

Obviously the mix sounds good. It all blends together well. The only thing that stuck out to me was that the lead vocal sounds like it's hanging out on the left. I had to double check that I didn't have a dirty pot panning everything to the left, but it's just the vocal that I'm hearing over...

    Factory Joe

Cool song. The only thing that popped out to me mix wise was the guitars are a little dark (but not so dark that it takes away from the song), and the snare sounds like the mids have all been sucked out. I personally would focus on the drums a little to make them sound a little more natural...

    epitaph

I just finished mixing this song yesterday, and now I need some critiques while I let it rest a couple days. There is a little glitch at 25 seconds that is not on purpose. It showed up after I exported. Any feedback good or bad is appreciated...

being a free producer for experience

I've had good and bad experiences recording people for free. I find that if more than 2 people are in the band, free recordings suck. There is always someone who doesn't show or they call you at the last minute to reschedule. If it's just one person, you can get some good people who really...

Anybody want to help beta test a plugin?

Hey guys. I've been working on a kick drum plugin and I need some people to help beta test it. The idea was to make a plugin that can add oomph to a kick drum without sample replacement. It can also be used in extremes for electronic kick drums. I'd like to get people with rock and electronic...

USB 3 Truly Legit for recording now. Eating Crow.

don't confuse higher transfer rates with lower latency. Just because usb3 will be faster than usb2 doesn't mean it will be better for low latency interfaces. In fact I've heard that the latency is worse with USB3 because of the extra overhead with having to be backwards compatable with USB2...

"Speak to Me" - trippy rock original

very cool song. If it were mine, I'd try to tame some of the harshness of the vox a bit. There's a lot of high end on there. I'm assuming you were going for an airy sound on the vox, which you got, but the sibilants suffer because of this a bit I think.

    Around the Kitchen

Thanks guys. nah, I won't be adding lyrics. Finding someone who can write lyrics and sing is the part I hate most about making music, so I've just given up on the idea altogether. This song was a bit more unstructured than I originally planned, which probably adds to it's unfinished feeling...
