Power amp level setting: Xstatic or other experts - I need advice

Chuck's method is indeed the way to maximize your dynamic range. Notice he says nothing about how hot to run your inputs or anything like that. His method is strictly about getting the most dynamic range and best s/n ratio out of your gear. What you do with it after that is up to you.

Please recommend a small hall PA.

Not quite true. Any amp that can handle a 4ohm load can easily handle 6ohms. You aren't limited to putting 4 or 8ohms on an amp channel just because the ratings are listed that way... So you could use the speakers with another amp, or the amp with some 8ohm speakers...the problems would come...

LED ZEPPELIN - SRTS disc two question

If you look at your CD player while the song is playing, it should display a track number which could be a big help in identifying the song. :p Seriously, though, which tune is the jam in?

    Decent hard drives (Feb 09)

Nope. Even the retards on this board can't break a hard drive simply by using it. For the most part, drives die, or they don't. And I mean individual drives, not particular brands. Except for one, apparently. Check out Google's hard drive study for some interesting stats. They use millions of...

    mic .. ripping?

Sennheiser Evolution are pretty good. I'm a big Shure fan but for a reason related to your problem (gain adjustment) I don't recommend any Shure below the ULX series, which means $6-700 at least.

    mic .. ripping?

The word you are looking for is distortion.:) At some point in the signal chain the level needs to be turned down to avoid clipping the signal, which is the source of the distorted sound. You will need to determine where this is happening and make the appropriate adjustment. A quick look at...

    Soundcraft or Mackie (or other?)

Yup. All pretty much entry-level consumer stuff. "I was told by a guy..a Mackie salesman no less" Baaahahaha you can't be serious that you believe that. The odds of any salesman at any music store knowing anything of value along these lines are more than a billion to one. Really.

    cd upgrade for masterlink?

From what I remember you had to get the burners from Alesis...I'm not sure the software and firmware of the machine would support faster burn times anyway. You could always call them and ask.

    LDC / SDC, explenation please.

Read the first thread in this forum- the one about diaphragm size and polar patterns...should answer your questions. First- LDC- large diaphragm condenser SDC- small diaphragm condenser The diaphragm is the part of the mic that picks up sound. The size can/does have an effect on the sound...
