The "left" motor in my 388 is dead... when I press Rewind, it seems like it tries to get going, but stalls. I have to manually rewind the tape, which isn't a huge deal, just annoying and not acceptable in the long run. Play/Fast Forward work perfectly. I don't have the money to take it to the...

I got a few reels by accident (I know it's supposed to run w/ only 1 mil tape). Load/RTZ functionality aside, will using this tape thickness damage the 388? Burn out the motors quickly...or over time if I keep using them?

If using the Recorderman OH setup, does it make sense to place the kick mic the same distance from the strike point of the batter head as the two overheads are? I never see that mentioned, but was wondering if there's ever phase issues with the kick if the kick mic is closer to the impact point...

So I picked up a 388, and the only way I can get any signal from a mic input is to run it through one of my M-Audio Audio Buddy preamps. Testing is with a few dynamic mics. Plug them straight into the 388, and I get nothing at all. Run it through the preamp and the signal's good. Is this normal...
