Any thoughts on the Focusrite Scarlett 18i6 usb interface? It has 2 preamps and 6 TRS inputs without preamps that I could use my external preamps on. How is the D/A & A/D conversion on these?

The 58 will probably be better for you in a dodgy sounding room than the LDC for sure, so you and your friend will both be benefitting... I usually use a beta 58 live, and have also used it with some success in the studio. Or you could sell the MXL and buy a dynamic, but that is more complicated...

Thanks for the input folks! I've gone ahead and ordered the AKG K240's :) I've been working with cheapo sennheisers up to this point and my mixes really haven't come out bad so it can only get better right! Thanks again guys! A
