Yep, no sound out of the mic, rattling inside and "popping" noises when plugged in and shaken a bit, so I think the ribbon is done, and I want to try to replace it. I can´t afford to send it in to get work done on it, so I figured I might as well try myself. Thanks, I will google those!

Thanks sweetbeats! I don´t have a scope yet, but I was thinking what else I could do that follows that logic - the wiring from the head goes into the motherboard (thanks for clearing it up btw) with a little plastic connector thing for each track, that you can take off. So I swapped track 1 and...

I inspected the wiring from the heads, and found the reason for track 4 being gone on the SYNC head... that little bugger must have broken off when I had the assembly out. I soldered it back on, and now all tracks are working on the SYNC/record head! Records and plays on all tracks. But still no...

I have cleaned the tape path well with isopropyl alcohol, and the heads too, but that was before the flywheel operation. So I´m definitely going to give the heads/tape path the cleaning of a lifetime tomorrow, to exclude that possibility completely. I´m using Maxell 35-180B

I got it now, they we´re just in there really good after 30-40 years, so it took some wiggling. I put a piece of string through the holes at the top and bottom of the card, that helped. I reseated them, listened - playback on 4 is back. I´m not sure if it´s been gone at all - maybe I confused it...

Thanks sweetbeats, I got to the cards now. Before I start reseating and shuffling them - is there a specific way of taking them out, that results in as little PCB breaking as possible?
