I tried this out on saxophone today and it sounded warmer and smoother than my Sennheiser MD421. I don't think it's as good as the APEX 460 though, does anyone know what this mic is based on? It has a 6J1B tube which is wired right to the pcb so changing it out would be pretty hard.

Have any of you ever tried to mod this compressor? Mine doesn't seem to do too much, it's pretty subtle and the LEDs don't seem to work, the gate sounds terrible and is useless. Any recommended Burr Brown upgrades perhaps? I took it apart and found a bunch of ICs and Opamps, here's the list...
