another new original, this will be on the upcoming bats brew release "The Wild Animals"

this is a next to next to last mix...
looking for feedback on freq balances mostly.

i think i need more 60 hz and down (prolly subs on the kick),
and bass guitar needs to come up on the 2nd half of the song.

Nice song!

I'd be looking at that kick around 125hz, sounds a bit woolley and could do with tightening up.

125, check!

thanks!

that's probably the room mic causing wooliness,
and i've only got a 16 bit stereo wav file to work with on the drums! LOL, old drum track done in Sony Acid, probably 15 years ago...

I think it sounds great, really. No mix complaints here.

You were morphing into Jon Anderson at the end there... cool! :)

Sounds balanced and lively on AirPods. Well done! Great performances.

Only thing that sounded a little off to me was that sludgy rhythm guitar tone that started around 2:10. It would be fine if it was in the background, but then it became center stage from 2:35-2:57. I’m imagining a more defined, more inspiring, high gain chugging tone there, and maybe a small lead taking you out of that section. Would give more energy to that section.

Might be able to lay off a little on the global drum effects too. Almost sounds like slap back echo on the hi hat? Maybe keep it as is in the snare but pull a little off of the overheads and rooms?

That’s just me searching for things that jump out. Way better than any of my mixes! Nicely done!

I rarely have anything critical to say about your recordings - mainly because they're typically 99-100% there when you bring them. But on this one - I will say that the snare is a little distracting to me. As in the type of snare sound. For me - it's like it's got to much..... uh.... personality (lol) for lack of a better term. Hope you don't mind me saying that.

Other than that - this sounds strong on my playbacks.:thumbs up:

you know, i agree with how live the drums come across..
but i only have an old 16 bit stereo file to work with here, that drum kit recording came from over 10 years ago,
with a program i no longer have!
oops
so, it's a stereo file.
the wider it goes, the more the room sound comes in..
i COULD collapse the left and right together down to mono, and minimize that snare sound, and room sound.
hm...

HI ERIC! jon anderson, i've heard that before, it's interesting to me, i never sang any of his songs, but i've always been a fan.
thanks for listening!

hey flyguitarfish!
intersting name you've got there... i see a lot of fly fishermen around here, for sure...
and guitars!
HEH

the sludgy part if my favorite part!! LOL
so, i'll eq it so that it tucks in better, and i brought the acoustic guitars up during that section as well, the acoustics now dominate that section, and come up and down til the final heavy part kicks in...
the global drum effects are cooked in.

its' a stereo file only, i can't remix it.
but i can collapse it to mono, and that should focus the drums, and reduce the room sound.

the drums, i responded to in previous replies, so yes, i'll fix that to a certain degree.

Yeah, fly fishing and music are my passions! When the rivers are blown out or the weather is miserable/windy I’ll be in my home studio writing/recording music!
