Bought a Portastudio 424 but need advice

Awesome! I never even noticed that when I had that model back in 2012 (granted I didn't have an interface to run tracks into). Kinda wish I didn't sell it for $75 now.
 
Hi! I know that this is the subforum for analog recording, but I didn't want to open another thread :p I wanted to record something on PC with Audacity thorugh my Shure SM57, but it is very very quiet. In particular I wanted to record some acoustic guitar. Now I read somewhere that the Shure SM57 is a mic for rather loud instruments. Would a preamp or some other device help me in that case? If you could recommend me a preamp that would be great. Thanks!
 
Start a new thread and we'll help how we can. Might be the thread will end up being moved, but I suspect we can help regardless. Any low impedance dynamic mic like the SM-57 has to have a preamp. If you are trying to plug it directly into your sound card it will be really, really quiet.

I had that problem too. Luckily, I had purchased an Audiobuddy used and hooked that up. It made all the difference in the world. The nice thing about that is I can use my condenser mic because the Audiobuddy has phantom power.

probably a more 2016 type option would be a USB audio interface. I use an alesis io hub. Either one will probably get the job done. The alesis will require less cabling......
