Here's a rock tune of mine. 16 Track tape, tracked and mixed with one of those old fashioned thingies, A console. Remember those?:D

Written by me, recorded by me, guitars by me. Everything else courtesy of my 2 wonderful bandmates and some really hot chicks doing background vocals.:thumbs up:

Enjoy....or not. :D

EDIT:new soundcloud link is up

Cool tune. Guitars have a slightly harsh edge on these headphone. Kick and bass could come up a little in relation to the guitars. Need to line up that guitar stab and snare at the start. Go on get the scissors out, you can do it :) I wouldn't have known it was all recorded to tape if you hadn't mentioned it. Recording is nice an clean though. Good job

That's pretty good. Were you bouncing down to save tracks throughout the process? (2 guitars, bass, vox, 2 BGVs only leaves 1 track for the whole kit! o.O)

The big thing I'm noticing with the mix itself is some high end issues. It sounds like a bit of crackly distortion on most things and a lot of sibilants on the lead vox.

Sounds good. Everything's clear. The bass drum is a little weak. Not sure if that's just a lack of volume, or if it's kind of woofy. That's the only thing I notice. Overall sounds good, though.

I'm not sure I follow your math.
!6 Track tape
If he means 6 track, then that leaves ZERO tracks for drums. But I'm pretty sure it's 16 track, which leaves many tracks for drums.

Shit! Listened this morning and A/B d with the original mix. Horrible! ! Original had none of those issues

Somethings wrong. 16 track mixed to dat, then spdf out into focusrite, into prorools, then bounced to disc. Then uploaded to soundcloud.

There's some operator error there somewhere, but the end result is horrible garbage.

Gonna have to fix that.

:D
Edit: fixed the typo. Sixteen tracks not ! 6
Ha! Bonehead

You're too kind, thank you. :) but you and I both know it sounds like dogshit!
:D

No man, it really doesn't. I'm not a "pat everyone on the back" kind of guy.

Only you know how good it should sound, but what I hear is good. I just thought the kik drum was a little flabby, but nothing sounds anywhere near dogshit.

I hear the hide end exaggerated, as Steve mentioned. Let's hear that other version, if you put it up. It sounds like everything is in place otherwise.

Rami, well thats refreshing. Thanks man.

However this upload needs a will, if you know what I mean. :)

The original has been checked on multiple speakers, different rooms, car, etc, and sounds good.

The uploaded version sounds tinny, harsh, and where the fuck did all that sibilence come from?
Gotta figure out what went wrong.
Maybe went into protools too hot, and got digital distortion?

There's just the one mix. However somewhere in the chain from the analog to digital conversion somethings wrong.
When I figure it out, I'll reupload.

Yeah, listening again, it does sound like dogshit.

:D

No, just joking, but I do hear what sounds like digital crispiness, which might just be that you went into Pro-tools too hot. No need to get anywhere near 0db in digital. Still sounds pretty good. But I my ears would get tried by the third song if this was how it sounded.

Track yanked. See ya after I fix it. :D

HA! I've done that. Sometimes about 2 minutes after posting, I finally "hear" it and wonder "What in all god's fuck made me think this was ready to put up?"

When I put it up. I never listened to it.
I monitored off of the mix to dat, but not what was going on in pt.

But then this morning I listened to what everyone else was hearing! The horror!#!!
:D

Ok I fixed it.....I think I was running my dat converters too hot.

Sorry to make y'all listen again, but if you want to here it is.

Well, that's much better. This is how I thought I heard it the first time. I must have been at low volume, or I was tired, or both.

All the same comments for me. Sounds good, but the kik is weak and woof y to me. That's it. Reminds me a bit of Sass Jordan. Guitars sound great, vocals sound great and are mixed well, overall sounds fine. I'd just want the kik to hit me more in the chest, with a bit more snap.

Thanks. Funny you should mention that. I like Sass, and have talked with Steve Salas for a bit. I like the tunes and his playing. This tune was actually recorded when "make me a believer" was on the radio. Yeah, this is one of my oldies. So I can see where something I liked became an influence. Good ear.
I'm in the process of transfering all my dat masters to digital.
I see what you mean about the drums. Probably will take the original 16 track and dump it into the daw and remix.
Thanks.:D

cooooool. well done man. i agree w/ the kick comment by Rami, btw. Yeah, this is what I thought was underneath the grit on the last one. Very clear and seamless

I thought this pretty good. Good singing. Vocals nice and out front. Guitars sound good. Tight playing.

A bit too much reverb for my tastes.

I didn't care for the kick sound or level. It's covering the bass and it's a bit boing-y. I'd add some low midrange to it (just a bit) and pull down its level. You could probably also nudge up the bass.

But all in all it's a very nice sounding mix.

Thanks, man.
Are you saying its clear and seamless now ?

If i remix i can do some drum editing, possibly some time editing in the daw.
