Hello, I am new and need help. I have a yamaha usb 10 chan mixer and I'm using cool edit pro software. my issue is after i import a mp3 to a track then set a track to be the recording track, when i sing in to the recording track it also records the mp3 thats playing off the first track. how do I set it up to not pick up the mp3?

thanks
DT

I cannot discern whether the various "free" download offers for Cool Edit are Kosher or not (the "+crack" certainly are not!) but having just got this laptop SOMEWHERE near right after a big crash I am loathe to try!
If you download Audacity (www,ninite.com) that has a Preferences menu that sorts out what gets recorded and when.

BTW, "Loaded an MP3" It is generally best to keep all sound files as .wav (until and if you want to upload them to TOOB or sommat) almost certainly 16bits and probably 48kHz for that mixer by default.

Note, you can load an MP3 into Audacity and export it as a .wav file. It won't get any better (be bigger!) but at least everything should be happy.

Dave.

My guess is that you have a routing problem with the mixer. You have the MP3 loaded into Cool Edit, you have an armed track recording in CE. The MP3 is playing, and you hear it through the mixer, and the mixer is recording your vocal plus the MP3 coming back from the computer.

Looking at a pic of the mixer, I think the way to get round this is to direct the USB return to C R/Phones output (C R = Control Room). That way it won't get to the main left and right outputs which is what I believe is going via USB to computer. Note, you should also have your monitors (if you use them) connected to the C R output.

Shame on Yamaha! The manual for the MG10XU is just two side of one scabby bit of paper.
No signal block diagram and so no way to tell how signals are routed. I do hope there is independent control of headphone and monitor speaker feeds? Many mixer designs in the past have cocked this up.

The more upmarket MG 206 does give a full manual with a block diagram (and a level train, MOST handy!) .

So, to do as Gecks says you will just have to experiment with the routing. N.B. certain signal paths can result in loud feedback, keep cans around neck whilst jazzing around.

Dave.

I reckon that that will be handled ok by the Control Room function. Maybe the manual leaves something to be desired, but Yamaha usually are pretty clued up about mixing requirements.
