Hello i bought one of these today and i cant seem to get it to work with mu computer. Does it have to have a box for it to work. I dont know to muc about this stuff. I went to a cable store and he sold me a 3.5mm converter jack. When i plug it in it records but it just comes across as crackles.

Any ideas or help

thanks

OK so time to take the cable back. I really dont want to spend a lot of money on this. So what would be a good option with a low price point. I also saw audio interface boards are those a simple option.

Thanks

Although there are devices that simply provide phantom power, I would NOT recommend one of these since, even if you successfully get your mic into the built in sound chip on your computer, the quality will be rubbish since built ins are made for gaming and Skype calls not recording with a good mic. You will also have problems with monitoring working that way.

The USB audio interface option that Arcaxis suggested would be the cheapest and easiest thing for you right now. If you can still find them, I can recommend the M Audio M Track (original version, not the Mark 2) which was on sale recently because the Mark 2 was released. It's a good reliable box that sounds fine, does good monitoring and the right power and connectors for your mic.

There's lots of others but, if you're talking to a salesman, tell him you need phantom power via an XLR and "direct hardware monitoring" as a minimum. Other features are up to you.

Nothing that I know of, just that it's more expensive now the original is heavily marked down. However, I've not tried one.

(Oh, and just to get you angry, I think they've dropped MIDI!(

I found the one your were talking about. I just need something simple. There is nothing out there that cost less.

Thanks

Yes! It seems they have! Penny pinching bastards. Oh well, just have to recommend the Alesis i02 instead!

BTW may latest rant is going to be about a Korg synth reviewed in the current SoS. Close to £800 and just MIDI in! They can't even claim lack of space because it is a big bugger and there is acres of space on he back. Could easily have done In, Out and Thru....Twice! The reviewer also comments on the paucity of MIDI implementation. Note on-Note Off. That's yer lot, not even pitch bend.

Dave.

would the blue icicle work for what i need

The Blue Icicle would get your mic signal into the computer but you need to consider what you may or may not need in terms of monitoring while you record since it doesn't do that. If you need to hear your voice in headphones as you record (with out latency/lag) or need to voice with other sounds mixed with your voice so you can hear cues, the Icicle probably isn't for you.

I've also heard of some people complaining that the length/size can put a strain on the USB socket on the computer but don't know how much of a problem that really is.
