The assorted elements of this track are all pretty good.

However, the bass is pretty dominant in this mix (and for me me to say that this is pretty rare). In particular there is a boominess around 122hz (at least on my system).

The keys are kind of under-represented, and could afford to come up a bit. In particular, during the guitar instrumental, there's a home that the keys would fill nicely.

The song is crying out for some soul-type of brass and some backing harmonies

I was clinching - preparing to hear something bright and shrill like so many home made jobs I hear around here (including my own). I was surprised to hear bass and warmth. Thank god, that's what we really need

The bass is definitely out of balance with the other elements. It dominates the mix, but it's a really nice sounding (heavily compressed) bass sound. I can barely hear a kick drum. But I totally agree with gecko's ears - i.e., the individual elements are recorded really well. Really nice performances on everything I can hear, which is mostly bass (ha!), but seriously, the vocal is very good, and it's super close. There's no way this is your first recording, so maybe your thread title just refers to this being your first post here. If this IS your first recording, then I think it's appropriate for everybody else here to hate you openly. :D

The bass is bit boomy or loud. The low is just really fat and the timing is bit off.
I'd suspect programmed drums just by the really rigid sound.

The voice is the highlight of the piece if you ask me. Very nice.

I think the vocals and guitars sound good and are fine where they are.

I'd recommend turning up the organ and the drums and dropping the bass guitar quite a bit. I like loud bass, and the tone of this one is pretty nice, but on certain sustained notes it's just eating up most of the audible space available to my ears.

If you could do something to dirty up the drums or make them less mechanical sounding I think that would help too.

View attachment Goning to Get you hp.mp3Thanks. I appreciate the feedback. I know I am getting close, just spent too much time with it. Needed the extra ears. I'll man up. I am the bass player. Guilty as charged, but I played the keys as well which were too quiet. Here is an update and another track. Also, not programmed drums, hell not even to a click.

Bass is much better now, organ still needs to come up in the mix, along with the right-side rhythm guitar (just a little - it actually gets a little louder about half way before the lead guitar kicks in). I prefer not to pan the drums as wide as you have them, but that's a personal thing. Snare is a little loud now. Great vocals.

That's pretty fucking funny. I used to play with a bass player who started recording our live tracks, and the result was similarly lop-sided. It's the main reason I started trying to learn how to record. Funny thing is, that bass player is now the soundman for what's left of my old band. I'm sure the current bass player loves him.

I still think the bass is a little hot in the last mix of the first tune. The Back in Style mix is better, and that's a killer song. I'd personally put more verb on the vocal to put it in the same space as the guitars...give it more of a live vibe, because it's a live sounding song. Also, when the stabs are going on with the guitar, the lyrics are getting lost. You might envelope or ride the fader on the vocal. It's not a real modern sounding recording, and it's still a bit boomy, but I like this track.

Still a little too much bass and the accent guitar is more a dialect than an accent - needs to mellow a little - bring it down.
Good song that could use a real swing in the drum department.
The guitar solo doesn't start out well and seems to go on a journey without arriving.
I don't hear horns but do hear some discrete bvox and some strident strings in the last section.
