Thank you MusicWater. I agree with you on that harshness on vocals and gtr's. I struggled with vocals a lot and couldn't get it the way I wanted to.....In terms of "too much reverb and effects" - I wanted to create a lot of space to synths in choruses and to make them really big and also use some reverb and delay on vocals but for example drums don't have any effects, just their "room". Could you please specify which instrument/sound sources are out of tune?

Thank you for feedback

The tuning issue is in my view related to all sound sources (except drums), I recommend that you try a mix where you tune the keys individually towards the stringed instruments that you tune purely by ear and when you cannot do so skip the key instruments or use them only for arpeggio/rhythm. Many hit producers out there choose arpeggio/rhythm/non-pad style keys when they cannot properly tune these sound sources.

Keep in mind that this much reverb, although in itself it can be desired and according to your taste, it can also create other issues that might not be desired according to your taste, that you might not be aware of. If you would lower the reverb you would for instance improve the stereo image and the rhythm and feel. In this particular case I do find it makes the drums suffer. Reverb is the cause of a lot of damaged mixes out there.

Hey np sigfrid, I'm here to help! :thumbs up:

Good combination of arrangement/chords, lyrics, tempo, vibe. Very good vitality in this - well executed. Good use of the stereo field. Vocals and electric guitar frequencies are harsh. The mix is too wet in terms of effects, especially reverb. The sound sources are out of tune. The mix is however bright, good good good, just try to bring down some of that harshness and maybe complement with some sub frequencies to round it off a little in the low end, add some harmonics too.

Overall, very interesting mix! I hope my frank feedback helps.

Don't listen to him. He either doesn't know what he's talking about, or doesn't know how to communicate what he knows. He's a misleader.

Hey sigfrid, very nice song! I could only listen to it at work, so I can't comment on anything below 200hz or so. As far as I can tell the mix is clean and well balanced. I do agree with Broken_H about getting a ride sound in instead of HH. Overall quite impressive. I kept waiting for a distant, smoky baritone sax to wander up to the foreground (perhaps to join the play of synth and guitar toward the end?).

Thanks for the listen.

Thank you for the feedback dverno. I'll mix this again within a few days and change HH > ride in intro. Unfortunately I can't play sax...:)

I really like this song with all the mood swinging chord changes, dark chords and your haunting vocal. This second mix is an improvement, but I really liked the first, so. My 2c. Only thing I still have a problem with (I know I didn't mention it) Is the monotony of the solo at the end...a quick scale run up or a minor third chop thrown in at random might do some good to the solo.

Anyway, everything that should sound forefront sounds forefront where it should...i.e. the vocal is the center of the mix when the vocal is present. The bass comes forefront at some very nice times, the guitar solo is right there, the big string swell takes preeminence when it comes in and then immediately drops back. I like the stereo guitar pops that grab your attention at about 2:00. Very well mixed! I enjoyed listening!

BroKen, thanks again for the feedback and comments. I will check that "solo thing" again. I'm primarily a keyboard player and play gtr only when I have no other options to get the results I need so it's not an easy task:)

Me too! But I'm just saying the same few notes played over and over gets very monotonous after a few times...break it up just a bit.
Also, I have an old sound font of a strat that I've used to re-amp and make decent guitar sounds from my keyboard. Just can't do glissandi or pick slides...:D
The soundfont in question is included in the excellent Arachno SoundFont. You will need SFArk to decompress it, and a VSTi to play with it. You'll find all sorts of fun sounds in there. Happy Recording!

Thanks again, I will check that soundfont..although I prefer real gtrs if possible:)

Hi, I decided to make a new mix of this song. This is a 3rd mix. There are a lot of changes - on levels, compressions, some changes in the arrangement etc. Both, mix 1 and 2 are still there if anyone wants to compare. If you do, please let me know what you think.

Nice recording. Has anyone mentioned that it sounds a lot like Toto's "I wont hold you back now" .....but not enough to call it a copy but I bet you are a Toto fan :)

Well done.

Thank you BuzzHaze. Nobody have mentioned anything about Toto before this but now that I think about that Toto's song, I agree with you. The verse is a bit similar although the chord progression and melody are different. Also solo/outro has the same feeling but again, different chords and tune. Anyway, I have always been a huge Toto fan although I haven't really listened there songs for years - I think the latest album reliase was.....2009???

This track has come along way from the first mix.

I liked it then.

I like it even better now.

The sibilance is just a tad strong at the beginning of words. Not so bad at the end. "So" is a bit louder than "eyes". Overall, though, this thing is amazing.
Great job.

Cool tune...had a Alan Parsons feel in parts. For me the tempo is maybe a tad bit too slow ..maybe.....To me it had a the feel of the Wham's Careless Whispers..that tempo and type beat would IMO improve the feel... You have a great voice and the tune and lyrics are top shelf. :thumbs up:
