Hey Everyone, just registered here, been reading info on the site alot lately. seems like a great place here. thought i would ask this question.

I am recording metal guitars at home. In my live rig i have an Amptweaker tight metal pedal > Boss EQ> ISP Decimator into the return of my amp head... i really want to use the tight metal pedal but can't crank amps at home, my thought was to go from pedal to interface (line 6 ux1) and add Impulse response. My question is, do i need anything else in my signal chain?

i have tried it and it sounds good to me, i'm just wondering if i am missing something?

Thanks for your time!

You answered your own question. This is absolutely the only thing that matters.

That said, the Instrument input on the UX1 looks a whole lot like the input on that Decimator or just about any other guitar pedal out there. It's got a fairly limited headroom (something less than the 5V it gets from the USB, I suspect), but that just means that you should probably be careful how much signal you're pushing into it. Honestly though, if you've got piles of distortion before it, and will be distorting it through an amp sim or something after it, the little bit of opamp clipping you get at this stage either won't be noticeable or might even help some. You "metal pedal" is probably pretty heavily limited, so unless you go adding big boost via the EQ you should be fine.

i havent tried it with an amp head sim, just pedal and impulse response. just not sure if i should be using a amp sim, or does it depend on the pedal.

thanks again

i use a real tube amp, an attenuator, and before the attenuator, i steal a line level off my speaker out with a Palmer PDI-09.

i can then attenuate down to whisper level if that's what i need, but get the full output sound of the tube head.

works great.

What attenuator are you using?

i use a Weber Mass Lite (2 attenuators in one, highs, and lows) 100w model,
with a 60 watt mesa boogie mark2b head.

Was just wondering. Read pretty good things about the Webers. Are satisfied with the tones you're getting?

yes, i post them all the time in the mp3/songs forum, check them out and see what you think.

by the way,
there is discussion here, there, everywhere, AD NASEUM, about attenuators...
how they work,
what they do to the tone,
if they blow your amp up or not......!

LOL

but after all is said and done, it is simply a tool...
one that you must learn how to use properly.

people that need to move air to get their tone, generally do not like them.

and wouldn't you say 'duh' to that?

it really depends on your personal taste,
your personal gear setup,
and what you are looking for.

my current rig setup (i change it up pretty often)
