New and need suggestions

Anyway, I did answer the question before I had fun. Midi out to midi in. Midi through to midi in on the computer. Both instruments data is transferred.
 
I am not scared off I am just taking the weekend to read some of the suggested material and then Was going to come back on Monday probably with a few questions. Thank you for all the help so far everyone
 
I don't know if anyone has said this yet (I just saw this topic and I'm not going to wade through 5 pages of replies), but if you're having latency issues (delay between when you hit the key and you hear the note through your PC), it's probably your audio drivers. The fix is as simple as increasing your audio buffer size. If your buffer size is maxed out, then it's your PC. I've got an Intel i7 @3.4GHz with 12GB RAM and have to use 576 samples to eliminate delays in Cakewalk SONAR X3 Producer. I hope this helps.

WOULD that it were that simple friend! The tireless researches and tests of scores of interfaces by TAFKAT (sound on sound forum) have shown that it is the INTERFACE that largely decides the level of latency (or to be more precise, how low you can get it before hings get "clikky")

Compared to that i7 monster above my HP AMD 2x2.7G 4G ram should be useless but in fact with an NI KA6 I can run Pianoteq(say) at 64 samples which is as good as the internal M-A 2496 PCI card. I don't run it that low because I have no need to, delay is undetectable at 512 so I enjoy a safety margin.

Hey there sorry been very busy at work, Can anyone suggest a good MIDI controller only need to for hook up to an interface, under 200, 49-61 keys, sustain peddle, not USB powered I've been looking around but I do not know whats good

Could be good? It can be DC powered* (bet you don't get a power supply tho!) and has MIDI out.
If you are looking for a keyboard with the full MIDI in,out and thru' you could have a long look! Such a unit would be a MIDI "interface as well and the seem to be quite thin on the ground these days, at least in your budget range.

*Just occurred! You should be able to power any USB keyboard from a usb wall rat?

yeah as long as it has a MIDI out which I can plug into an interface and has a sustain port I am interested velocity keys too which seems like every Midi controller has. Like I said before I fully intend to get a full size keyboard something that would have MIDI ports so this controller doesn't need to be very fancy just something with what I mentioned before and feels good to play.

Well, you might then save a bob or two and go for the 49key version? It looks to be a clone of our Evolution Keys49 and that has served son (grade8 jo) very well for 5 years or more.

FYI: you can power the things from any handy computer's USB port and stuff the DIN into the noise maker. You could probably get away with a very long USB cable since there is no data going down it in that situation.

thanks for the tip on the USB thing, Yeah I was leaning more towards a 49 key keyboard, would fit better on the desk I might go to guitar center or another music store and see what they got and how they feel to play.

I've seen it here many times - the OP comes in, asks a question, gets a bunch of smartass replies and never posts again. It just so happens these times the OP wasn't as thin-skinned, but as has already been pointed out, some newbies are.
 
so quick question, If I had an interface and I plug a MIDI keyboard into and I use the head phone jack on the interface would that sound be after it went through the DAW (sound effects from the DAW) or before, I mean if it was before then if they keyboard was just a controller then there wouldn't be any sound to hear correct ? Would I be using the interface jack or a headphone jack on the back of the computer ?
 
Are you using the MIDI plug or the audio plug?

MIDI is just data, you can't hear it. It is the virtual fingers that play a keyboard; which notes and for how long, etc. To hear audio from MIDI, you need a sound generator of some sort. A midi controller does not have a sound generator so the computer will do that in the way of softsynths/VSTi's. There are also separate sound modules, but not sure if they are common anymore.

A lot of keyboards that do generate their own sounds also supply midi data.

So the question is, what keyboard are you using and which plug are you using?
 
You want to select your audio interface as both the audio input and ouput device (and MIDI input device, if so equipped), so monitoring would be done through it.
If you MIDI keyboard is just a contorller, it does not have any built-in sounds, so if you want to monitor audio, it would be from the DAW (set track monitor to ON) where you have a VSTi as a plug-in on the track.
