Any comparable mic (dynamic or otherwise) to the EV RE20?

So the EV RE20 sounds AMAZING. BUT does anyone know of a comparable dynamic mic that has as smooth & powerful a low end as this one? I need the mic for vocal recording (male vocals).

It's not a price issue I just want to know my options. I already am well aware and have used the Shure 7mB and while it's in the same ballpark as the RE20-- it pails in comparison and sounds slightly weaker (for what I'm going for).

It's really that smooth radio-voice sound that I like.. Yet still being able to handle HF well enough.

Any suggestions?

I believe the re320 is similar but priced a bit lower.
In a pinch something like an akg d112 will have stacks of low end and, probably, give that trademark broadcast sound.

If anything, though, I find the re20 to be less bassy than the 7b etc. The proximity effect alone makes most mics sound very different to the re20.

I don't know if it's what you're looking for but the EV RE15, RE16, RE27 and RE320 all have the same "Variable D" feature as the RE20 that minimizes proximity effect.

BSG, am I right in thinking AG employed a similar design in some of their handhelds?
