I only have two options, "No avatar" and "Pre-defined avatar".. how do i upload an avatar of my choice?

OP, don't worry about us, we're just joshin'... the answer is that it takes 50 posts (or it used to) before you can get your ugly mug or other avatar up there... until then, Popeye it'll have to be...

I'm sure I uploaded my avatar straight away.
After you have logged in, at the top of the page, after your name, click on "Settings".
Then, on the left, in the "My Settings" panel, click on "Edit Avatar".
Click on "Use Custom Avatar" and upload a picture or link to a picture on the web.
QED.
