Good day all,

So just yesterday I went and purchased a Presonus Audiobox 44VSL along with a Blue Spark Condenser. Quite an upgrade from my M-Audio Mobile Pre! I've been trying to get a clean acoustic guitar track out all day, but every one cracks and pops. My chain is Blue Spark (about a foot from guitar neck/hole) > Audiobox > Ableton > Bx8a Monitors. The things I've already tried are updated drivers, raised buffer rate to 1028, Interface is set 44.1, using the blue pop filter as well as a larger one I purchased, and playing with the gain on the preamp. Now if I try to just sing into the mic, it doesn't click or pop but the acoustic automatically does it. Keep in mind, my signal IS NOT clipping. Even recording at -12dB I get the clicking.

If anyone has any suggestions on my issue, your advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Lou

Frustrating,

You could try lowering the buffers, Are you sure you followed the exact procedure when installing the new drivers. Have you checked the Presonus website to make sure you have the current drivers that match your OS. Is that unit USB? make sure it has its own connection (its not sharing/conflicting with something else on your USB line) IDK that's all I can think of.

That's odd that it works for your voice, but not the guitar, that does sound like something is off in your gain set up, like something is overloading, or possibly defective?

I'm experiencing two different issues. The cracking and popping on the audio track and at certain points any audio that comes our of my speakers is getting randomly distorted and detuned at different points. My Mobile Pre did not do this :<

Well one thing I've noticed is that the Audiobox runs at 24/48 and your set at 44.1. Make sure your DAW is set at 48, it looks like the Audio box only runs at 48. If that doesn't work, go to the Presonus community forum and post your problem for an administrator.

crackling and pooping!
I wonder who will use the search function successfully for this one some day in the future...

Someday, it'll happen...

we should prepare and research which is the best mic for under $100.

If you read my post, you'll notice me explain that I have tried the many suggestions I discovered when I used said "search function." Although, your help is greatly appreciated.

I assume you've swapped the mic to make sure that how it's being powered isn't one problem. If you are sure the drivers are all correct and the latest, then the next step is to try some alternative software - so download audacity and try that. It's a process of elimination to discount potential problems stage by stage. On a decent PC nowadays, your really shouldn't have to be changing default buffer settings with just one stream on the go. So try a different mic with different software and see what happens. If after all this, you still get problems, it's try a different computer to rule out a faulty D/A - it's possible that your new hardware is actually faulty. Unlikely, but you need a systematic approach to fault finding.

Make sure your output main volume is not more than 75% of full. I had this problem on my system and chased all over the place. Turned it down, problem solved. You can probably reduce your buffer settings lower once this is solves as well.

That takes care of the cracking, now the pooping. All I can say to that is, eat more fiber.

Had to wait since yesterday for someone to make that comment!

Question I would ask: is the clicking and popping happening during recording (are they getting recorded or just heard in the monitors/headphones?) or only playback?

It wasn't a dig at you -- There's a slight spelling error that seems to have gone mostly unnoticed.

I saw the the first day it was posted...:D
I thought maybe the guy was looking for a bowl movement problem remedy, and he ended up on HR by accident.

But somebody in the future is going to do a google search and it will bring them to this thread. So we better be ready with the right mic choice. :D

This actually sounds like one problem. Glitches and pops basically means your computer isn't keeping up with the task at hand. Funny it happens only with the guitar and not the vocals. Can you post a clip?

i had the same issue with a tascam product i purchased a while back. i had to upgrade the firmware on the hardware to over come the issue. so check to see if there is a firmware update available.

clicking and popping both in recording and out of monitors, but random grinding is also heard out of monitors.

thanks for helping,

Lou

The clicking, popping, and grinding come out of the monitors. But the few tracks I recorded only had cracking during guitar parts for some reason. Weird.

Thanks for all the help, guys!

Did you try to turn down the main volume on the unit? It will pop and glitch when you push the amp beyond its capability. Reduce it down to 3/4 or less.
