Im currently using a laptop running at 3ghz with 16gb of ram and a 1tb hard drive. my computer in plenty powerful for any recording needs. However i'm debating getting a external monitor for when mixing and adding effects...ect. should i spend the $100-$150 does it really make that big of a difference?

Thats what i was thinking too, before anything happens though i need my stuff in the classifieds to sell then pay my book fees for school. and with what ever is left over use for upgrades in the studio.
I like the extra real estate.

Yeah, I was looking at your TLM102, but I really don't need another mic. :D

I'd be lost without my second monitor--it speeds work flow immensely being able to have more things on a screen at the same time. My secondary monitor is 20 inches and I'm seriously considering a bigger one.

My family vetoed my idea of moving the 50 inch plasma into the studio but the one time I plugged it in to play, it was amazing!

I have two monitors on my music station and three on the computer I use for mixing. They're all 1920 x 1200 and the smallest is 24". At each station, one is mounted vertically. As Bobbsy said (hmmm, I seem to write that a lot! :) ), having multiple monitors speeds my workflow enormously.

I love multiple screens. I have 4 hooked up right now.. 26" in center with 22" on each side left and right, and a 47" on top. Being able to keep things open while working that might he helpful. Or throwing lyrics on screen for a singer is nice. I have a pic of it in the show your studio (posted yesterday or day before). I couldn't imagine working without at least 2 monitors.

When LCDs started showing up used for less then $25.00, I started changing out the CRTs. Now I have four--two for the main computer, one for the backup and one for a spare. The last one I bought was $2.00 at the Salvation Army because it had no cables--but I do, lol.

There's much less noise with the guitars, and more screen space makes things easier--plugs can go on the second display, plus things like Sonar that claim to be single screen get awfully crowded.

I have a 32" TV (1920 x 1080) as my 2nd monitor and i love it. makes work a lot easier.

Don't you guys have to put your loudspeakers way too far apart when using two monitors?

Not me. Everything sits on an overturned door that I use as a desk. The sound field for my nearfields is just fine.

My second monitor is wide aspect, so it sits on top of the left monitor speaker, which is on it's side. It's top is just about even with the top of the 19" square (main) monitor. That's how it fits on my desk.

I have two levels to my desk. It all sits in quite nicely for me.

Couldn't imagine less than two video monitors for a DAW. Three even better. Once you use two I would doubt you would ever go back to one.

An extra monitor is really cool, I use it for PT mix on one and edit on the other. Two 20" on a tower. Now I'm using a macbook and I'm gonna have to figure the best option myself.
