alright, so i have about $750 to spend on some new recording equipment
I already have my heart set on a shure sm7b and an ART tube mp studio V3 preamp.

my setup consists of:
laptop with reaper and fl studio
focusrite scarlet 2i2
akai mpd 26
akai lpd8
arturia minilab

I record and produce mostly metal and electronic music. i guess what im asking is, what else do i need? im willing to save up to $1000 but id like to keep it under $750

When I record and produce mostly metal and electronic music..
.. I feel I need (or am lacking).. __________

Enter in the blank space the response from Chili. :)

Should look like this:

I'll say to ditch the Art Tube Preamp and get an audio interface with solid AD/DA converters. The Art Tube will not really improve your sound :)

Just my 2cents.

Im actually not in a position where i can get monitors and room treatment :/ as of right now i use headphones and my closet in which ive hung blankets acts as my vocal booth

Take off the headphones and come out of the closet.

Then don't get the SM7b or the Art tube pre. With the focusrite, you don't need an external mic pre. In fact, the focusrite arguably has better mic pres than the Art mic pre.

You don't want to be in a closet. Use the biggest room available. You can treat your room DIY for less than $200. It's an important component to getting good mixes. But... in the end it's your decision and your tunes.
