How is this punk mix?

Loud and in your face-guitars sound nice and thick-vocals are to out front for me though it's appropriate for the genre id say. I had to set my volume based completely on the vocal and the track lost some power imo. Drums sound pretty close, they're just thin and high endy...a few tweaks and I think it would sound very good-get everything to match the guitars and bass which sound excellent and it would rawwwk.

Alright I uploaded a newer mix to the same link. Haven't tuned the vocals yet but I tweaked the music.

I'm gonna try to refrain from getting pissed off while listening to this.......lol

Okay, uh, well, the mix......it's not terrible but it needs some work in my opinion. For a "punk" (I use that term very reluctantly here) mix, it's close, but it really needs to be much tighter and punchier. The drums are pretty loose and sloppy. The kick is too flubby, the snare sounds like it's all bottom mic. The toms have very little presence. Where's the attack? And yeah, the timing is terrible. Timing doesn't really affect the mix, but man, bad timing on such a simple song like this makes it sound really messy and amateurish. I like the guitars okay. They're not bad for the song and style. The bass is really kind of underwhelming. Again, not terrible, but a little better bass tone and place in the mix would be good to me. Just turn it up. The vocal level and place in the mix is good to me. The performance...not good. Why do all modern "punk" (again I use that term very loosely here) singers try to sound like Blink 182? It's terrible. I usually try to refrain from commenting on the actual song, but this thing kills me. It's the longest 3 minute song I've ever heard. Damn yall, throw a change in there somewhere. It's literally the same terrible whiny vocal melody over and over.

That was very helpful. How's this?

Should be a lot tighter now.

It is indeed much better. The kick and snare sounds still aren't great but they're definitely improved. The kick has a cleaner attack, but now it's lacking some "thump". I think that keeping what you've done to it would be good, but do a very narrow "spike" boost like around 50-60hz for some low punch. The snare is snappier, but you've got a lot of snare wire rattle and buzz happening. If you're using a bottom snare mic, drop it down some, or possibly even get rid of it all together.

What did you use for drum overheads? The hats/cymbals are very trashy and very centered. A little spread and smoothing would help I think.

The snare at this point is just a trigger sample with a lot of air and boosts. OHs are a spaced pair of large condensers hanging rather close to the cymbals. They are hard panned 100%.

I like the sound of the most recent mix best. But are you sure you want that? I mean, you're aiming for a punk mix, right? :laughings:

Fuck that. 4 is better. Louder gtr. Vocal sits better. I am drunk though.

Nice song :) I think the drums need to be more tight, the cymbals seems decoupled from the rest of the kit. But nice punk mix!

And i'd lower the vocals from 1 to 2dbs or 3dbs! And put a little more bass on the mix or at least on the guitars!

If I were you I would re record the vocals and try and get them less nasal. Not to sound harsh but there are some bits that literally made me cringe. Also the kick should have a little more volume/slap as it gets a little lost. I would bring the guitars down a hair and bring up the bass.
