Working on Video

This belongs in the Music Video section and I'll move it over there for you.

Some quick comments.

Add something different in between the shots of different buildings. Preferably you singing. Otherwise it could look like a real estate video.

If there is a direct video reference to a line in the lyrics, maybe try to precede the song a bit. So, the viewer is already seeing a downtown street before you sing about a downtown street.

Mind you, I'm no videographer.

Nice song.

If I were you, I'd spend a little more time crafting a story line that goes with the song. Then spend time shooting those scenes that add a story element to the music video. It will make it much more interesting and keep the audience engaged.

A few other things about the edit:
Try to avoid cutting two shots next to each other if they are from a similar angle and are focusing on the same object. For example, you have a shot that zooms out from some trees, then it cuts the same trees being zoomed in on. There is a jump cut as the tree is not in exactly the same position, yet there is no need for that second shot of the tree zooming in. A good edit is when you don't notice the edit. Unless it is a stylistic device, and you want it on there for a reason, I would suggest taking it off. Every single cut you make should have a reason that you can define in your head as you go along. (and the reason can't be cause I need the video to be longer here or there)

Definitely add in the band and shots of yourself singing. There needs to be context, even if you decide not to add a story element to it.

That's just my 2c. Hope it helps! :)

Me neither (obviously) ... so all comments are good. I've got to get more video in order to complete this ... but the "band section" I was reserving for the instrumental parts of the song -- leaving the lyric sections to be the "story" parts.

It's funny how timing is just as important in video as it is in music. :)

I do have an overlying general concept, but not yet a specific storyboard. The "story" is related to both the sentimental nature of the lyric, along w/ age and decay ... which metaphorically Fall represents. The lyric itself moves from childhood to college to parenthood, and the trick is going to be trying to convey iconic sentimentality in a video impression alongside a coherent timeline ... paced properly.

Thanks for the thoughts on the tree morph from Fall into Winter ... I do have footage where the tree is roughly the same size and would go from having leaves to being bare ... perhaps more effectively

Update on the video ... and although I haven't figured out the last instrumental part -- I finally got a concept in place for the last verses.
