Leap Motion Controller

Hi all, just wanted to give those you are looking for ways to improve DAW interaction as heads up. Here is a new controller: PC Mag Review - Leap Motion Controller that might make using a DAW, especially for the solo recorder, easier.

Will be looking into this in the near future as it is such a pain to walk to the work desk, hit record, run back to the mic, record, stop, you get the idea. I really think this has some really good potential. At $80, it is not out of reach.

If anybody tries it, post your results. I will be looking into in the coming weeks and will post my finding. I do think it could assist a lot of folks in this forum.

How would you see what you're doing? Would you have a second monitor set up near your mic, and wouldn't that result in electrical interference again?

This used to annoy me too, but then I got Touch OSC on my iPhone & iPad (there are tons of other apps that do the same thing) and now I can control Reaper from the mic instead of the other room (there are templates for all kinds of DAWs).

Like VomitHatSteve said, I'm not sure how you'd see what you were doing with the Leap Motion controller if the computer wasn't in the same room.

It does sound pretty cool to be able to wave your hands around and make things happen though!

For me, I have a large enough monitor I can see it from my mic position. I am not thinking anything complex, record, stop, just simple hand movements if you are recording alone.

I know of several apps for Android as well that will allow you to control a computer remotely. I have not been a big fan of theses, but for Android devices there is the app: Teamviewer (which I really like), Splashviewer (These guys have been out there now for at least two years, solid).

So, if you have a smart phone or tablet, you are right, there are alternatives. I have a tendency to not to use these types of apps (I don't trust them in general), but I am sure they would do the job as well or better.
