Very smooth mix, everything sounds in it's place and I love the slink to both the sax and the vocals. I've listened through a couple of times and don't think I'd change anything from here. I'm guessing from 'final mix' that you've been through a few iterations of it already.

Enjoyable listen dobro

Impressive, you shoud'a done a vid on ths tune, you know like the unboxing vids, from start to finish.
I'd love to know how you got everything to sound so goddam good! (tips & pearls of wisdom welcome!)
very impressive! :thumbs up:

Great tune, great words good mix. Just a curiosity question. Would be possible to not pop the vocals as much? Like you do in the chorus. Where you use it to accent twice in the chorus, which works really well. If you use it more to that effect for the important part, like the part about her being married(accent on you being /married. I think using it so much on "can't hold on" diminishes the coolness of it.

Just an opinion and not a criticism.

Thanks, RG. After posting this 'final mix' I actually heard something that I'd missed before - there's some noise at 2.41. It amazes me how I miss stuff like that even after listening to a mix dozens of times. Thanks for the listen.

I tried getting into video, but I discovered that I sound better than I look. :o

As for the sound, I do nothing special - just try to get everything balanced and clear of that home recording darkness, and then I send it to a mastering engineer. Time and money. Thanks for the kind words.

very cool song :))

Yeah, I love the combination of nylon string guitar and sax. :)

Popped vocals: it's what happens when you track stuff with a certain mic in a certain way and then EQ it thusly and master it so. I noticed aspects of it when I was mixing, but didn't tame it enough apparently. I'll keep an eye on that next time round. Thanks for the ears.

thank god.

Always wise to do that, yes.

Cool, me likey. :)

The whole song has a really nice vibe, like a film noir soundtrack kind of feel. I might just be talking out of my a** with that, but that's the only comparison I could think and I MUST always have a comparison. :D

Love the sax, you play it?

Hey, yeah, I did notice small crackles throughout as if I was listening on vinyl - not just at 2.41. They mainly come through in the breaks - It's fairly minor and didn't really affect my enjoyment of the song, so I didn't think to mention it when I last posted.

I think I might have stumbled on the fix this morning. What you're hearing as pops is stuff on the parallel compressed track - when the compressor is at really gnarly settings, it brings out consonants. For no good reason, I tried reducing the attack to 0 ms, and suddenly some of the worst consonants got tamed. Thanks for the nudge.

Sounds pretty final here, or rather you're probably tweaking things that most won't notice. Really cool song too, very natural arrangement. Love the vocals as usual.

Appreciation. Thanks for that. I think it's time to move on to some new stuff, don't you?

But what should I do with this album? Try to sell it or just put it up for free? I have no idea. I am so not into marketing. I haven't found the fun in marketing.

Thanks very much. No - Lt Bob played sax.

Cool stuff, very cool song & performances. Lt. Bob's sax is very N.O. funky.

Hey, thanks. Yeah, he's an awesome player. I've listened to that mix many, many times and I always like listening to that solo. I know it better than just about any sax solo in the world except maybe Take Five. :listeningmusic:

I recently put an album of my stuff up on Bandcamp with the "name your price" option. I can always change the pricing if it somehow goes viral. :p

Hey dobro. I've given this a listen a few times the last couple of days but kept getting interrupted.

Everything seems really clear with great separation and nice panning. In the pauses (of which there are many) I felt like I could hear some hiss or background noise or something other than complete silence...it didn't bother me, but I wondered if you purposefully left some tracks running through those sections for atmosphere or something? I dunno...I'm on phones right now and it's cranked pretty loud, so maybe it's on my end.

Anyway, the performances are really well done and it's a nice, focused mix. Well done.

Sounds fine to me. My only nit is the noise in the stops. I personally don't like hearing that stuff. If you're gonna drop out, then drop! Silence. Good mix though.

Also you could give me a copy....

CD or download? If you want a CD, you have to pay me real money for packaging and shipping and pita factor. Download's free to selected persons of my acquaintance. CD gets you the stunning album art and all-important liner notes though.
