I finished uploading my mix last night and just wanted share it with the forum (first post BTW). I've enjoyed listening to the originality of some of the mixes posted.

My biggest challenge was taming all the bleeding from the overheads and drum kick, I had a blast mixing this song though... her voice is so unique and the band did a wonderful job.

Personally, I felt that the bleed made the drum sound. In fact, I don't think you could get the full feel of the song without the bleed. Work with it instead of against it IMHO.

It sure made for a bigger feeling mix... very true.
 
Did you guys notice the bassist's mistake @ 1:29 (original time)? Did you do some editing?
 
Been listening to the mixes and some of them are quite promising, going to post mine soon.
 
I'm noticing some of the mixes are a bit louder than mine, I kept it un normalized...any thoughts?

I didn't find the bass that horribly muddy. And I used the DI to bring up the finger thing and enhance the top end.

I only ended up using one bass track. 200-300 were a bit muddy so I carved it out, but didn't notice breathiness.

Agreed. the bleed was workable, could use it to your advantage with the right EQ

It says -16 to -18 average. I was surprised to find a lot of the mixes quite loud actually.

That was kind of fun. I am afraid I didn't put as much effort into it as others. I just tried to make a nice kind of "Austin City Limits" vibe to it. So I tried to keep it as simple as possible. I used very little compression, tried to control the tracks more with volume. Probably missed a lot of technicalities.
