hey guys, i want to separate the head from the speakers in my combo amp. it's 80 lbs and i have a 4x12 at the jam space,so i want to be able to just take the head to jams. i'll obviously have to build some kind of box for the head to go into. just wondering if anyone has any advice on doing this? also i know i probably should have bought something different , but this is the amp i wanted, and it's fantastic and worth a little work and customization. the amp is a Blackstar HT Stage 60w combo.

thanks for any tips or advice anyone has.

peace.

I know you can buy cabinets for combos and heads for homemade amps. This link is to a maker in the UK, these are suitable for the amp kits on the main ampmaker.com site: -

It's gonna be pretty easy to do really. Just buy/build a cab for it to slide into.

But my research says that that amp in a 2x12 combo is only 67lbs.

I'm 62 and I've set an upper limit of 70lbs on my amps.
I've had people suggest that i should separate the amp and speaker "because that's so heavy".

My response is "Screw me if i can't pick up 70lbs!"
And I have to haul that thing in and outta gigs many times a week.
I just figure I need weight-bearing excercise to keep my bone density up anyways.

You gonna let a 62 year old man outgrunt ya'?!!?

:D

you should be able to. For that matter Blackstar makes heads ......... maybe you can get an empty cab that'll fit from them?

The only problem I can foresee with this is that combo versions of an amp are usually laid out upside down in relation to their respective head versions. And the tubes and transformers point downward in combos. Putting the combo "head" into an actual head box so the tubes face up will have all of the controls turned upside down! Then I guess you'd have to relocate the feet to the top of the head box.
