Hi all,

I run a professional recording studio and thought I'd make a blog to share to the world!

I want it to be helpful, with recording techniques and mixing tricks.

Firstly, do you think this kind of blog would be a useful thing for people or am I just wasting my time?

Secondly, if you think the idea is good, what sort of articles would you want to see on this blog?

Thanks!

How will it be different from any number of recording blogs and forums like this already doing the rounds and competing for attention in cyberspace ?

Well I've yet to see a online blog article on recording that is concise, correct and helpful.

But if you think there's no point because there's already too many, then that's also useful feedback.

:-)

Beginners probably won't know the difference between one that is concise, correct and helpful and one that is bloated, incompetent and misleading. I usually avoid the ones that look like a minefield of advertisements. Though, some people don't seem to mind and follow along like lemmings.

I think as people age, they tend to enjoy reading more in general. The younger generation seems to be hopelessly stuck on visual stimulation. To them, watching a youtube series of instructional videos is way less work. However, getting their attention in that ocean may be off-putting to you.

If you can offer something different and more eye-opening than the others, you may find success. If not, you will likely be adding to the white noise that makes us dizzy. Good luck.

Sharing is good.

Nice positive attitude

Your friends may find it useful and word spreads

I'd like to see your diary. Isn't that like a blog?

I was going to say that's a bit harsh, but then, I don't know what you've seen as I'm not in your head. What I will say though, is that maybe you haven't looked hard enough. And whatever it is you go on to write, couldn't someone else with differing views on certain tenets of recording say exactly the same as what you've said ?
But if you think there's no point because there's already too many, then that's also useful feedback.
Well, I'm not saying that. You didn't really answer my question. I'm curious as to how what you'll do will be different enough to stand out.

I dont' go seeking the blogs out, but most of what I have seen gives little detail but lot of expounding.
More 'real' details would help.
For examples (and include sound sample files):
1) Singer had bad volume control, so I put the pop filter 6" from the mic (mic type, etc), told her to stay close, then automated her volumes after tracking ....
2) Placed an SM57 near the edge of the speaker cone (amp type, speaker type, etc) and an AKG... 18" out ....

Do people actually visit "blogs"? Isn't getting/sharing info what sites like this are for?

I'm presently mucking my way through this, and I find I retain a lot better by reading detailed manuals than watching overview videos.
I usually have the software up on the screen so I can follow along on my own, which further helps me to pick it up more quickly.
