looking for a small complete pa system with powered mixer. any have any thought on alto systems. ? seems to be a british co. and really cant' find too much about. looks sturdy in pictures. though. buying it for my daughter's 4 piece band.

Could be OK but .....

Answer a few questions first

Are they only putting the vocals through the PA? And how many? Gonna need a microphone ans stand and cord per!
What are the instruments?
Do they play loud?
Do they need monitors as well?
Are you from the UK?

That's enough questions for now to help narrow down your possibilities.

Oh yeah! And your a great dad!

What size venues are being planned - need to size the system based on that as well. Buy something for small rooms, then start getting gigs at bigger places or outside, and its time to move up (or rent or hire a sound man like Henry!)

really just looking for a complete pa system with a powered mixer ( 8-16 inputs) anc active (powered speakers)/ have the mics and cables already .. steer me in the right direction. looking to spend no more than 2k

Alto is on a par to Behringer and wharfedale, and for the low price does a reasonable job, I think Alto comes from Italy and is Chinese assembled but someone correct me if I am wrong.

Maybe you mis-typed? You don't use a powered mixer with active speakers. Well, you could but what's the point?

You didn't answer the questions:
Are they only putting the vocals through the PA?
What are the instruments?
Do they play loud?
Do they need monitors as well?
what size venue(s) are you planning on playing?

my bad ..I mean't passive speakers. mostly small outdoor venues for now. vocals, keyboards, and maybe overhead for drums .. monitors would be nice. just a bunch on teens playing in their first group down here in new Orleans.

"Small outdoor' is the key here - outdoors, no walls or ceiling to keep the sound in, you need power. You don't mention guitars/bass - do you have them, or not in this band? Micing amps/DI bass is the best way to get overall sound balance with bands.

And kick would likely come even before an 'overhead and bass.

FWIW...being a part time DJ since about 1991, and having done more then a few outside gigs, be warned..it takes ALOT of power/pa to push sound outside..

if its close quarters, and not a really windy day, it aint so bad..but if you got people who are even 150Ft away, and ya got a decent cross wind going...its takes a bit more..

but without all the questions above answered, its anyones guess as to what kind of wattage etc you may need..

Even in close quarters if you have people 2 or 3 deep in front of the speakers they will suck up that sound boom zoom.

Are there other acts in your area playing similar venues? Check out what they're using.

I know it ain't hip, but if you're looking for real no fucking around, ready for the gig and able to withstand loading in and out then what you want is Peavey. Won't be the superawesomest sound, but it'll get the job done. It's ubiquitous which means it can be found used for decent price and also that repairs and replacement parts are easy to arrange.

If you're in US, try this link CarvinWorld.com International - Guitars, Amplifiers & Pro Audio You said 12-16 channels under $2k. Many on that page fill your bill. Boards are running 1600W & 2000W which should be OK for small venue. Carvin has been around since I was playing clubs and dances in the 70s. Was solid enough to handle teens on the road! Pay attention to the C1648P-PM15 set. At $1400 leaves you room for some powered monitors or a nice digidelay/reverb unit. Running 2000W and 16 channels...decent for the $$$

I've seen used Mackie tops and subs for $2000. on ebay. That's two of the SRM450's tops and two of the SWA1501's.
That is a lot of PA!

Note that those numbers are not watts per channel. That is a total of the 4 internal amps combined at a 4ohm load. It's more like 300-400 watts per channel. I have the 1644P that I've used for years on small gigs. great little mixer but the internal amps don't push a whole lot.

this seems to be the a good solution... thanks...i'll check it out!!
