I had assumed it was about the technical issues of recording vocals ... but it seems that people are more interested in getting opinions on the quality of their voice. So, which is it?

"Singers unite! Singing techniques, itchy throats, and do you need vocal lessons? Stuck with the vocal tracks? Share your problems and solutions..."

Point taken though.

Posters are more likely to request a hug in this forum than in any of the other forums...

I hear ya!;)

To be fair I think there is a big clue in the name "Singing & Vocals" if taken literally. It would seem that many who post here are looking for opinions/advice on their singing and vocal performances. That's how it comes across to me and if I personally wanted to get some feedback on that particular aspect of my performing I'd likely post it here.

Since the first word is "singing" I've always assumed it was more to do with vocal techniques and so on. There are lots of threads about recording vocals in the Recording Techniques forum.

Since I have a voice that can kill at 50 metres, I've always kinda resented this forum.

I agree with you. "Is my voice any good ?" does weigh one down after 4 years. Yet one doesn't want to be discouraging to those that are a little unsure. This forum seems to prove though, that there's not much one can discuss about singing !

This is the "please tell me I'm good" forum.

In full disclosure, I was one of the main proponents for starting this forum. The intention was to discuss singing and vocals for recording musicians. We had forums to discuss everything else in the chain but this one, so I thought it would be a good idea to cover it. However, it turned into a "Can I Sing?" forum rather than a "Help me with better vocal technique" forum.

:o Yup...

I always get a laugh out of some of the needy and insecure threads in here.

And it is a good idea, then as now. But it's like many things that are put into the hands of 'the people' ~ it goes in ways never envisaged. When the people of Egypt combined to force out the dictator that had been in charge for 30 years, they didn't envisage a further dictator coming in making laws that would protect his position of dictatorship and leave them no better off than they were before. The Poles didn't envisage 46 years under the weight of Soviet dictat when the Nazis were run out of town.

What are you trying to do? Turn this place into the Cave?

Yep, another trusty Cave thread possibility.;)

...hands of the people AND Google. :(

For sure, most Can I Sing? inquiries come from google searches.

not sure I agree when the vast majority of the people that post "Do I sing Good" ONLY post that and variations of it and don't participate in the forums nor post more than a dozen times nor contribute anything.
And they mostly disappear afterwards.
I suspect most of them post the same question in dozens of forums and it's more to troll for compliments than anything else so who really cares?

I don't need to be told I'm good, I already know it. :)

I`m hip...ya got me hooked a while back with your munsters/version..LOL
EDIT: scratch that...make it seek and destroy, being how were talking about volcals and all..LOL
