Music for the purpose of dancing

CBGBs seems to be the commonality. It was a "scene" that supported new & different hence Television being included in the punk thing - & like THeads & Blondie they were a millions miles for the sound & even ethos. Well, once Richard Hell left they were - but even with him they were pretentious, ambitious & driven.
The Dolls - they predate the rest really - glam, drag & garage made for some excellent songs.
Ramones were just about perfect from debut.
The Dead Boys - I don't know I have had the LP Young, Loud & Snotty since the 70's but it wasn't what I was looking for.
Dictators - more cartoonish in their way than the Ramones.
The Heartbreakers - LAMF - which ever mix I listen to is still pretty cool.
Television - i LOVE.
Blondie's 1st couple of albums were great pop
& I've addressed THeads.
The Cure's 1st 2 or 3 LPs were excellent! Once Robert Smith started wearing lippy it was obvious he'd adopted another agenda - 1st heavydoompop & then just pop.

It's amazing, though, how many of those early CBGBs bands sound closer to the classic rock bands they are popularly thought to have despised than they do to each other.

All I know is that if I had a time machine I'd park my ass at the bar at CBGB's in 1974 and never, ever leave. In my opinion, the NY punk movement is the most important musical movement since the birth of rock and roll. They didn't know it, but those bands were saving rock and roll.

Yeah, it was a time and place...to each his own and all. I would probably go back and do drugs with the Manson family. (if they would have me)

Yeah lol Manson was awesome.

I might go back even a little further and hang out with the Velvet's at The Factory. That sounds like a good time.

Hey chuck, this is really, really good. Lots of cool stuff going on, good melody and a great bass line. Your stuff really comes alive on the songs with synths, they complement your style well. I'd just bring up the "I can't escape the feeling" line a little, but other than that I don't hear any mix issues, well done!

It didn't make me think so much of Talking Heads as others have mentioned, but it really bring to mind Enola Gay - I wondered whether this was a conscious reference point when you were recording. Drum machine intro, wonky synths and strong synth riff - not that I'm saying it's blindly derivative or owt ;)

Hey Rob, thanks! I had to go re-familiarize myself with enola gay. I just pulled it up on the youtube and started cracking up when the lead singer plays bass and the racks of synths everywhere :-). I always wanted to be the bass playing lead singer in a new wave band.

The type of song @ the front of my mind when I was doing this was probably something from 'speak and spell' era Depeche Mode - maybe 'just can't get enough' , which apparently has been co-opted for sporting chant purposes of all things.... Also probably Matt Johnson 'this is the day'. My buddy says it's a blatant rip-off of that song, but obviously I don't agree :-) My tune doesn't really remind me of the heads much, except in the second verse with the harmony (is it harmony?) that comes out of nowhere.

I think the I can't escape the feeling can come up in a couple spots. I chopped up that phrase and sprinkled it all over on two tracks panned left and right. I had adjusted the volumes on each of the individual regions as opposed to the fader and missed a few. Personally I know I need to bring up the "SOMEONES TRYING TO TELL ME SOMETHING" phrase, cause that is the punch-line to all the 'i cant escape the feelings'.....

Thanks for checking it out. I recorded a cover of The Walk by the Cure a couple months ago. It came out pretty funny and in my imaginary world it is the B side for this single. I checked out the whole licensing thing with Harry Fox that someone here posted about and it is available for digital download license. I'm thinking about totally losing my mind and putting the pair up as a single on BandCamp with the name your price thing - it would be the first time I ever 'sold' anything :-)

Also - haven't forgotten collabs. My work schedule has been pretty crushing :-(

I've thought the same thing myself at times, but I think unless you were seriously messed up on the same drugs they were, it would get old fast :-)

I love the video! I especially love it when people take no money and turn it into gold! Try doing another one with a really beautiful girl or a little child, same effects, with her lip-syncing to that deep voic; then blend back and forth or just overlap them. Now to the mix. The guitar is country, the over-all sound is '80's. I would move the beat box up in the mix and drop the guitar back a little kind like it is in the distance. Add a little reverb to heighten that effect. That's just me. Great overall idea, though. Keep it up. Good Luck.

The video idea is cool, I always have big ideas for videos but never end up executing. Mostly they are just a kind of diary. I will test out your mix ideas. I've listened on a few different setups, cars, phones, laptop speakers. It's odd - sometimes the guitar really sticks out, sometimes the drums. I don't know exactly what take no money and turn it into gold means, but I think I get it :-)
