So I have a RODE NTK coming in the mail most likely tomorrow, and I have a Presonus Firestudio Mobile coming in the mail most likely Tuesday or Thursday. But my question is can I try my RODE NTK condenser/tube microphone in my crappy lexicon alpha audio interface and just boost the gain on Logic via an equalizer or something? Or would this hurt the RODE NTK because my lexicon doesn't have phantom power? I know that condenser mics require an interface with phantom power or a preamp but I'm curious to if trying it with my lexicon alpha would hurt it. I figured one of you would know and could keep me from hurting it if it would. Thanks.

No, it won't hurt it, but you won't get any signal you can use.

As I said in the other thread, the NTK comes with a power supply that is essential for it to work.
The output is seven pin so that you can't accidentally plug it straight into an interface.

You need the Rode PSU.

That mic does not need phantom power. Tube mics get power from the power supply, not phantom like solid state mics. It should work just fine.

Oh, you have the power supply? I thought perhaps you didn't have one.

Just go XLR out to interface in then; That's how it's meant to work. Phantom power is not required.

You won't need to make any software gain compensation.

We have had this conversation as well ..... will phantom power *ON* hurt a tube power supply?

Shouldn't it be acting just the same as phantom power on a dynamic? It shouldn't hurt as long as the the ground is properly hooked up.

Not sure. I can't remember.
I think MSHilarious said that it doesn't matter that it wouldn't hurt the power supply but it's a good idea to have your phantom power shut off till you need it on.

I think that may be the first time I negged someone.

My smile as his green turned red.
