Any Cubase 5 users here willing to share their mixing (Plugins used and all) and mastering techniques so i see if i can learn anything new? thank you.

I try to keep mixing down to a minimum by recording it right for a start.
it's gonna take some time to atune your ear for mixing.

Practicing and posting in the mp3 clinic will get you lots of help and good advice.

Practice as much as you can. I used to mix 1 song from the raw tracks, 1 mix per night for 3 days (so now i have three differant mixs of the same thing) decide which i liked best then look back at what i did differant.
Theres lots of you tube videos with techniques to be seen. Beware theres a lot of garbage on there too.

Heres a technique i always use for vocals. (old School)
Do your volume automation by hand (with the mouse)
Dont rely on a compressor to make it good.
It always works out better than compressor because the compressor doesnt have ears.
Use them. They are way better than your eyes for mixing.

kips tip is great. I do the same thing, but alter volumes directly with the handles on the regions in the editor, personally find it easier than automation.

Horses for courses Chuck.
But we both. know you cant beat this method .

Start with the simple stuff to like getting the balance of the instruments and vocal all good (i usually do this after i've panned the things i want off centre).
Then do your instrument and vocal automation.

Oh gosh yeah many different ways to get the job done. It especially KILLS me that people use compression to level a vocal between verse and chorus. That is just criminal :-)

Why cubase specific? you know what I do and others do in pro tools and logic/reaper/Sonar/Acid Pro you can do can do in Cubase? as for as just mixing goes, some have work around be relatively then can all do the same thing.

Might wanna be specific on mixing drums or vocals or guitars, Im sure you dont want me typing my whole mixing setup on here cause it will be a lot of reading lol.

(do you mean mixing & mastering as far as in the same setup and software?)

Im confused, most engineers dont have the chorus and verse on the same track with the same compression. Most have verse & chorus on different tracks with different compression, again excuse me you may have been meaning something total different just trying to wrap my head around it.

Some don't. I would say many homerecorders, with their less than powerful PC's, might want to have it all on the same track.

You shouldn't be confused, I was writing about when I hear it in the MP3 forum here :-)

Um you can hear compression changes in verse vs. chorus "INSIDE" MP3's  ...Either you have digital hearing or some amazing listening skills that gives mixing detail of sounds upon hearing them :listeningmusic:...Please do tell???

No, inside the MP3 FORUM. The mixing forum.
Fellow home recorders posting their mixes here is what he's talking about. ;)

No i wasnt lol i was really lost lol, im sorry lol. Oh ok i get it now sorry guys lol

he's talking about using overcompression to even change the levels between a chorus and verse, rather than using automation or envelope adjustment of some kind.
