Let me preface this by saying I despise acoustic guitars.

Anyway, I got this junky Squier acoustic that has terrible action and 10 yr old strings on it, so I decided to try to fix it. :guitar:

Then I remembered heatmiser saying something about my song "Junkie Whore" and doing it unplugged, so I threw up two mics and let er rip in one sitting this morning. :drunk:

Here ya go, heat....two mics, one performance, all sucky. :laughings:

Junkie Whore - unplugged

Nice, understated nuanced lyrics, per usual.:D

That cheap ass guit sounds pretty cool....nice and jangly. I kinda dig that sound. What did you mic that thing with?

Haha, thanks.

SM57 on the acoustic at the 12th fret, about 6 inches off.
AT2020 for the vocals
Pretty fair amount of bleed bewteen the two.

Fun song. Sounded like a good recording of a cheap guitar. :)

Like the line "Oh no. she's doin' blow."

It's not bad man. You should do an album of shit like this. Keeping the live vibe to it. Record the vocals and guitars like you did for this song, then record some drums and bass for it too while you're at it. Unplugged at Greg's! :D

Awesome!

Can't wait to check this out. Unfortunately I'm at work now and can't listen. Although I have a cubicle, there is no ceiling or door, so no privacy, and they frown upon rocking out here....

I'll have to listen tonight.

very clean recording greg!

can tell its a guitar in bad shape, but given your playing ability... gives it a really cool feel... most shitty guitars arent played to that caliber :P

Thanks dude. :)

Lol. No. Thanks though. :D

Cool. It's not nearly as good as your "unplugged" song, but I figured what the hell. I got nothing to hide! :D

Thanks a lot. The guitar is actually in very good shape. It's pristine. It's just a piece of shit, but so are all acoustic guitars, so fuck it. :D

Another facet of the diamond we know as teh Gerg.

Yay! I love this. I really do.

It's just as good as the original for me, and surprisingly faithful to the arrangement, but also totally different. Those rapid fire riffs came out great...I wasn't sure how that would work.

It's very clear sounding with a good balance between the two elements too. It's a bit of a narrower sound than maybe I expected, but without doing some whacky, multi-mic setup I don't know how it gets widened. May not be an effect you wanted anyway.

Those can't be the old strings? They sound brand spankin' new...all bright and kind of rattling, but it fits.

Did you have a guide for tempo at all in phones, or did you even use phones?

I really like it a lot and am very glad you saw fit to give it a try! Well done :D.

Lol. More like another crack in the turd. :thumbs up:

Cool, thanks heat. :D

Those are new strings - like brand spanking right out the pack new. I put em on last night. No guide tempo or monitoring. Well I tapped my foot, but that's it. It came out pretty solid for no click track. This was the third take. The first one was in the original key, but it was too hard to sit and sing and play. If I'm standing and just singing, it's no problem, but sitting made it harder. Maybe cuz I was hunched over a fucking acoustic guitar? Or maybe it was early in the day and I didn't warm up? I don't know. It just didn't work. So I dropped the tuning a half step for takes 2 and 3. Take two was going okay but I forgot the words and fucked it up. Take three was pretty good all the way through so that was it. It's just two mics so I didn't try hard panning or anything. The two tracks are panned very slightly off center, but I wanted to to be basic. With the vocal mic and guitar mic only about 1.5 ft apart, I thought phasing would be a problem, but the two tracks together sound way better than either track solo'd. Go figure. And then it was just basic EQ and compression and a little reverb. The whole shebang took maybe an hour. Glad ya like it. :D

I liked it. And you told me once that you didn't do fun songs. That was a barrel full of fun. I don't dance, ever, but that almost made me jump up and dance around the room :laughings:.

Thanks. When did I ever say I don't do fun songs? That's all I do. I musta been being sarcastic if I ever said that.

I'm sold. Loved it.

Lol. Thanks.

I can't believe anyone likes this garbage. :laughings:

Where's my latte? Did you take my latte? Dude, that was my latte. Get me another one and this time add an extra shot of espresso. Hey I'm gonna check out Facebook on my MacBook. Did you know Steve Jobs died??? He didn't drink lattes....

Just having some fun here, but I really enjoyed it. Nice to hear something off the beaten path. A new side to the gerg.

I was kind of expecting to hear your yearly christmas song with the kids, but I'm -ha!!- kind of glad they didn't partake on this one. :D :drunk:

Thanks chili. Funny you mention latte. My wife likes that stuff. Sometimes I'll go to starfucks and get her one. I feel like a massive douchenozzle tool ordering that crap. I don't understand the code. There's all these words you gotta string together. I'm like "um, gimme a tall, skinny, white chocolate mocha". Whatever the fuck that shit means. Doesn't anyone just drink coffee? I do like their lemon poundcake though. Holy shit that stuff is dangerously good. I'll happily wade through the hipsters and soccer moms for a piece of that stuff.

And the Christmas song is coming! It'll be ready in about a week or so. :D

I love a skanky acoustic guitar. Let it boom a bit more (since there are no bass and drums),

Apparently I can't give you more rep :-)

Here, a normal coffee is called an Americano, but the coffee-tossers look down their nose at you if go around ordering that kind of simple drink. Therefore, you have to have a skinny-white-soy-Americano with caramel-cream-micro-foam or something. I dunno, I don't drink coffee.

God that's funny. A "skinny white soy Americano" just don't sound like coffee. Here in Australia "latte sipper" is an insult as far as our version of the "Tea Party" are concerned... But "latte" is how coffee should be drunk!

I guess it's called an Americano because the espresso is the traditional Italian way to drink coffee, and the Americans prefer/pioneered the longer drink I would call 'normal' coffee.

Hey Gerg - just to return to topic for a moment, I heard the intro and first line of this yesterday, but was then distracted. I'll have a listen later if I get chance, but what I did hear sounded pretty good (through my laptop's built in speakers).

Now, more to the point, tell us what you know about coffee...
