Hah I caught a little bit of the bass riff from "Stairway to Heaven" on one of the transitions in the song. Really catchy, agree with the drums, very punchy and thump with a snappy snare to contrast with. I'm sure you've probably been asked this before, but what drums are you using? Sounds to me like a Tama or a Grestch variant.

You've got some nice songs can't wait to hear more.

Thanx Ninja. I have 2 kits. I record on my Tempus kit, though. The other one's a cheaper set of Sonors. Maybe one day I'll see how they sound recorded, but I'm pretty happy with the Tempus.

"Stairway" never even crossed my mind. But i know the part you're talking about. I was actually worried that part was too Beatlish, but I hear the "Stairway" riff now for sure, too. Oh well, shows how influences can creep in when you're not even trying. :)

Tempus, never heard of that kit before. Just looked them up now and they look pretty damn solid. 1970's fiberglass eh? I had a feeling it was something from that era lol. I'm sure these come pretty close in relevance to the ole Pearl birch/fiberglass kits?

Dang cool song. Like the bass line in this. That solo thing was awesome.

Yeah, similar. But I remember those Pearl kits being really heavy, literally. Probably because of the Birch. I worked at a big music store here in Montreal for a few years and sold a few of them. Hated helping people carry them to their cars. :D

Funy thing is, these Tempus drums are the lightest drums I've ever seen. The shells are really thin, but they got a nice crack to them.

Just to update. I think I've taken care of the fizzy guitars....I hope.

DOG'S DAY

Thanx for all the help on this. All my songs would be way worse if it wasn't for this place.

Wow - man the bad time to be breaking down part is very Joe Jacksonesque, don't mean derivative or any song in particular - something about the chord changes, the lead vocal and the harmonies... VERY cool part, the writing/playing/vocals.....

Wow - man the bad time to be breaking down part is very Joe Jacksonesque, .
That's funny, it's the same part Ninja Drummer said was "Stairway to Heaven" and the sane part that I thought might have been too Beatlish. I guess it's just one of those parts........that's totally un-original. :D

Skimming over this, bleary eyed, I thought you were accusing the break-down in the song of being badly timed or saying accusing his playing of being sloppy. Me not so good at reading when me running on RedBull fumes... :drunk:

Just resurrecting this because I've re-mixed and re-tracked a few times since the OP. I'm pretty much done on my CD and want to get a final consensus before putting it to rest.

Does this sound ready to call a final mix?

Thanx guys.

DOG'S DAY

I tried very link from the beginning. I was beginning to get paranoid.
The last link is active.
Nice guitar tones, excellent harmonies, terrific lyrics.
It's another case of RAMI.
'Nuff said?
Really enjoyable.
You really have created an excellent signature sound.

Shit! Thanx for pointing that out, Ray. I just realized that I changed one character in the mp3 title when I up-loaded the new version. I fixed that now. All links work and lead to the latest version.

I really appreciate that alot, brother. Thank you.

I'll just post the new link in this post too:

Sounds good. I really like the bass and drum break. I think the mix is very good. Very clean and clear. I only have two nits, and one of them is purely personal preference....

First, the vocals are very good, but the first few lines seem a little pitchy to me. The "summer's gone...moon's all a rage" part and the "loooooonger". It's like you hit the notes but the trail off gets kind of weak. It's not too bad, and I'm no singer myself, but they stood out to me as a little off. You can leave it and just chalk it up to real performance or re-do it. Either way is fine.

Secondly, this is the personal preference part, I think this is one instance in which some tom mics would help your drum sound - for this song. What you have is certainly very good. The overhead capture and presence is fantastic as always. But the toms not being close mic'd is noticeable. For instance, the snare seems to be a blend of close mic and overhead. Unless I'm hearing it wrong, I think I can hear it in equal, or almost equal parts. The toms seem to be straight overhead though, and they seem to be on a different "plane" from the snare. The tom's collective presence in the mix doesn't match the pop and clarity of the snare. Now that's really nitpicky and most non drum mixers would probably never notice or think about it, but it's something I hear and just maybe something you could consider as food for thought. There's so much tom action in the intro and ending, it just kind of stood out to me. I wanted to hear more of that resonance and tone from the toms that close miking can give you.

Like I said though, those are just really nitpicky minor things. It's certainly very good as-is. :)

Ha1 I swear to Dog that I was going to re-do those exact lines. I had actually re-tracked them because I wanted to sing that part softer, and that's when I went a little pitchy. I agree 100% on that one, and I was going to re-do those lines tonight.

Interesting. I'll have to go back and listen, but you're probably right. That's easy to fix. I can cut out and drop my tom hits onto their own track, which I've done before. I think it doesn't help that I cut my overheads around the frequencies I need if I want to keep my toms big. Chalk that one up to laziness because I used to copy my toms all the time, can't remember when or why I stopped doing that.

So, the kik isn't too loud, levels are generally ok?

Thanx a lot man.

That's a neat idea. Isolate the tom hits with duplicate tracks. Try it!

The levels all seem fine to me. Nothing is missing or obnoxiously out front. Very well balanced.

The production and sound is beautiful. Sounds damn good. But I can't say I like the song so much. It just doesn't seem catchy enough to me, but that's just me. I'm sure there's a lot of people who'll get it. Awesome work for sure bro :D

Thanx man. That's what really matters to me when I post a song here.

That's cool. But, honestly I don't really care. No offense to you personally, but for every 100 people that listen to a song, you'll always have a percentage that likes it, a percentage that doesn't, and a a percentage that can go either way on it. :)

Lol. Yeah, if I cared what people thought about my actual songs, I'd never write one.
