hi can anyone recommend a mic for recording vocals for around 80 pounds , ive been looking at a few ,i liked the reviews of the editors keys sl150 but thats usb and im not really sure that i want usb as i do my recordings on the yamaha aw16g multitrack, theres so many out there but they have very mixed reviews,
hope someone could help.

What mics do you have?

On a budget of 80 I'd either save up, or get a 57/58 to tide me over, safe in the knowledge that it'll always be useful even after an upgrade.

Many cheap mics get replaced, but a 57/58 is always useful.

i dont have any at the moment as ive only just started writing again but years ago i had a Audio Technica was only about 60 pound 15 years ago but ill check out the one you mentioned.
thanks

I agree with steen about 58's & 57's in that it's always worth having one in your mic cupboard as they're always handy for a number of sources. in the under £80 range, the alternatives i'd suggest would be;

Blue Encore 100
sE 2000
AT2020

are you recording/planning to record anything other than vocals?

If you're looking for a dynamic mic in that range I too would go with an sm 57.

For a condensor, the Studio Projects B1 is, in my experience at least, a great mic for right around your budget.

I'm trying to determine which mic to get as well. Going to read up the microphones mentioned.
