Is there any type of control surface that I can use with reaper which has just the basic: beginning, play, pause, stop, record, end: buttons? Its just I record on my own (like a lot of people on here) and when recording drums and I'm sitting at the drums it'd be a lot easier to just press a button right next to me rather than having to move around if you understand?
It's probably a very specific question but I just think it would be much easier
not too expensive please £60 max.
Thanks

well I think it's looking likely that if I were to have one then I would need to spend more and get one that has other capabilities which I don't need

There are ones out there with transport and a single fader.
Some were around the £80 to £100 mark.

I think presonus faderport might have been the one I was looking at.

These two seem to dominate.
Alphatrack

Faderport

I wrote a max map patch a while ago that allowed me to control transport with any midi hardware, but I never finished making the actual controller.

Do you own an iPad or an iPhone(/iTouch)?
There are some really good apps that act like control surfaces and work over wifi.

My mum has an ipad, however when recording drums I would be in the basement where there is no wifi connection :/

and out of the two the faderport looks more likely, probably because of the price, but also on the link you gave me there is a review of a person using it with reaper, which gives me confidence :)

In my (albeit limited) experience, presonus products are very well built.
I'm actually thinking of getting the faderport myself.

I really miss the fader automation and transport controls of the digi 003 I used to have.

What about THIS which looks quite good and very cheap. Will it do the job for me?

I actually have a friend who has this who I could go to for any questions.

Oh yeah! Its a great tool, you'd need a long midi cable though, might cost a few bucks.

is interesting, cant seem to find a more detailed answer than "it uses a single usb cable"

That korg should be fine.

Most modern midi controllers don't use the old fashioned midi connector any more.
Almost anything you buy new will have usb, but will still be recognised as a midi device.

That goes for keyboards too.

How far away are you from the pc?
Sometimes I just use my wireless mouse but thats only good upto about 6 feet away.

Sometimes I just use the wireless mouse i have but thats only good at about 6 foot away . Unless i move the reciever nearer to me.
Just thinking aloud here:spank:
geez i'm over thinking sorry for the double post.

well the main two times it is a problem is when recording piano and drums.
When recording piano I am in my "studio" so what I did at the weekend was put the keyboard and mouse on the edge of the desk and had to sit about 3m from my laptop screen and reach over every time, and my back soon started to ache.
When recording drums I am in a different room and will have my laptop at about 130 degrees behind me and is very annoying having to turn around every time, so something to just place on a stand would be very helpful.

Of course the thing has other uses as well so I think I will go for it :)
and if I sell my behringer x1222usb for what I am hoping for I will have the money for it (anyone interested? :D ).

ANyone know how to have a VS 1880 as control surface to control faders in SONAR 7? I've been trying this for several months, with no progress........ Please help....

I have the nanokontrol I, it works fine once you get it set up, Would be nice if they sold with more than two feet of cable.

KORG nanoKONTROL works great with Reaper-they're around $40.00-I picked up a brand new one for $20.00 delivered.

I have a Korg NanoKontrol. They are quite cheap but for what they are, sturdy, reliable and no hassle to set up. It is USB only. Using a long USB extension caused a power drop off with my old computer, so it wouldn't work. On my new machine, via USB 2, I haven't had any problems.
