Piano was one take with one or two little edits.
Vocals were one take overdubbed.
EQ-Comp-Verb-Print. :)








Here is the updated version. It's just a little drier with the vox further forward.
I'll leave the soundcloud as it was.

The piano is beautiful. The tone of the vocal fits the song well, but given the small intimate feeling (just keys & vox) I'm thinking maybe the vox could be a bit drier. And the vox could be a hair louder--at some points they're competing with the piano, and might do better sitting a bit more on top of the piano.

Those are my nits--but in general: great song, great sound. Nice work!
 
yeah hes right....nice playing dude...damn Im shit on piano, Ive been trying to record some for a week now but I dont think Ive developed since my last lesson in 1981 lol


never heard the original so nothing to compare it on but this is nicely performed and recorded :)

To be honest, I only know it through Willie Nelson's cover version.

The first thing I thought of when I heard your voice was Willie Nelson. But it didn't sound like a Willie type tune. Parts of it sound like "Angel Flying too Close.....", but other parts sound Billy Joel-ish.

But you definitely sound like Willie in spots. :cool:
 
HA! That's pretty amazing.
The phrasing probably has a lot to do with it. Willie's phrasing is certainly unique. :p

Too funny! Same thing here. I heard Willie all over this one, but I didn't say so, because I don't know the original either. It's obvious you were influenced by Willie here, but that's a good thing--you did him proud.

Well, since we're on coincidences, I originally set out to do Angels flying too close... but changed my mind at the last minute.

Sounds great. I don't know this tune either.

I got half way through the soundcloud version which sounded really good, but then I clicked the new link and I think it makes more sense this way. I would've thought more verb on the vocals would've fit better on a mellow, sparse piece like this, but I like the drier, louder vocals better. Piano sounds very nice as well. Great job.
 
Hey man this sounds great. Love the vocals. I've always heard some willy in your voice, but mainly cause of me and paul :-) The piano sounds great - velocity curve for the controller seems a little funny - too much stuff at equal power - I can tell it's not your playing.
