parametric EQ question

is it ever the case that a parametic eq plug in is used more than once on a single track?

For example, let's say you are working in Garageband for your DAW. You want to lower a pinpointed frequency band while raising another. Perhaps you want to lower the low bottom end around 50Hz, but at the same time, make a small pinpointed spike at 250Hz.

Would you use two parametric eq's for this? Am I even making sense?

It all depends how many EQ bands your plugin EQ has.

In my DAW, one of the EQs has 4 bands...Low/Mid-Low/Mid-High/High....so, I could do what you suggested with only that single EQ - lower the 50Hz area while boosting at the 250Hz area.

GB parametric eq only has one band. So would it be better to use two parametric eq's to have the control over Q, or to use some other type of eq like a graphic eq?

does anyone here ever use more than one parametric on a single track? Is it a normal thing to do?

To answer your question, not only would it be fine to use 2 parametrics, it would be necessarry, since you only have a one band EQ.

Most DAW's (as far as I know) will have at least one multi-band EQ. But if you only have one band, then use as many EQ's as you think you need.

The most I have used is three 6 band para EQ's on a drum track. This was before I got drumagog.

Control over Q? Does it not have adjustment for badwidth?
To answer the other part, yes. In addition to using mulitple bands, a choice to make the top and bottom bands shelving, and High and Low Pass filters are also good options.
