Hi! I'm new here, and looking for some more opinions on my voice, and just my music in general. I've put up covers on Youtube in the past, and I can never get the views where I want them to be, just because there are a million other covers out there just like mine. As of right now, I'm not what you consider "fantastic" when it comes to songwriting. I've always had an issue with it, which is another issue because every musician has to come up with something original. But, I'm just trying to take everything one step at a time- if any of you could help with out with some professional criticism, it would mean the world to me. Any advice/comments would be fantastic!

With that being said, here is my cover of Taylor Swift's song "Fifteen", I'm also playing my 12 string guitar in this cover-

Thank you so much!

Well, I can give my opinion on your voice and this recording, but I can't give advice on "your music in general" because I haven't heard it yet. I don't know this song, but first off-this recording is not doing you justice. This has a distant sound where neither the voice or the guitar is coming through very well. I don't know how you went about recording this but it sounds like a single dynamic microphone at a distance from your mouth and the guitar. I would say in general you need to experiment with your recording methods, even with a simple hand held recorder you can get pretty good results. There's probably free software out there that would allow you to record a guitar on one track and your voice on another so you could have better control over the final result.

It sounds like you have a nice voice and the guitar playing is solid, I hope you branch out and start writing your own music. Taylor Swift didn't get where she is coming up with reasons why her cover song view count was too low. Try to take something away from the cover songs you learn to use in your own songs ie; what key does your voice work well in?, what kind of chord changes and rythmic changes do you like? What subject matters make you sing the best?

Anyways there's more than you bargained for for a +1 to your view count!
Best of luck

I'll start by saying that I adore your voice. From what I can hear, you are definitely super talented. That being said, if possible, try to upgrade the recording gear. The better the recording sounds, the more people will want to listen to it over and over. Oh, and turn off the T.V. next time, haha :D
Looking forward for another cover from you!

This should go into the singer's forum...where recording quality is not as emphasized.

LOL... you think she actually came back? Just harvesting hits, I'm sure the same message is in every place she can get it...

Agreed.

You do have potential with your voice. Improving the quality of your recording setup is one way to better yourself, and get more exposure.

I meant to post this in the singer's forum, I honestly had no idea until it had already been posted :/ so sorry for that! Thank you for all of your feedback, it means a lot. And no, this hasn't been posted anywhere before (other than YT, obviously), so I'm not just trying to harvest hits, I wanted your honest feedback.
& I plan on upgrading equipment for recording :) I mean, like I said, I'm just starting out, so I really have no clue where to even begin. I thought it would make sense to receive some opinions on my voice before taking the next step and investing money into some new gear. I know that recording doesn't really portray my voice well, but thank you for listening anyway!

I've written quite a few songs, but I just think I have the potential to write better than what I've been able to do. I know that it's going to take writing many more songs before I can get the hang of it, it's just having the patience with myself throughout the process that's the problem. It will get better with time! So, most likely, the next thing you'll hear from me will be an original song, recorded with a new mic of course. haha! Do any of you have any suggestions as to what would be a good choice of a microphone to purchase? Or what programs to use after recording? I've played around with programs like Logic Pro & Garage Band, and I own Mixcraft already (still learning on it). :)

Your voice does sound great, to reinforce the positive reviews you've been receiving...
