The Old Tone Thread

Ok, read through and listened to the clips. Really liked CrowsofFritz's clip. That was really beautiful. I think that type of playing just demonstrates the beauty and power of the guitar. Liked TrackRat's clip also, just good overall. Muttley600, I've been wanting to get my band to play Spooky but we always seem to put it on the back burner for some reason. Are you not in GB? I'm just want to know why all singers from across the pond seem to lose their accent. The only one who I know of who really keeps a strong accent while singing is Ian Hunter.

They don't there are plebty that keep their accent. The guy singing that had a bad dose of hay fever at the time and it doesn't do him justice.

For real accent singers check out Carys Matthews (Catatonia), Obviously Paul Weller, Plenty of the 70's new wave stuff. Billy Bragg, Proclaimers. etc.. There are tons of others.

I'm just wondering...is the Old Tone Thread now the new tone thread and the New Tone Thread the old tone thread? I posted a day ago on the New Tone Thread and no one has posted since which seems odd for a thread that was quite active. Haven't had a chance to read through the Old Tone Thread, took me two nights to read through the New Tone Thread. Guess I've got some reading to do, but with only 4 pages the Old Tone Thread shouldn't take me as long as the New Tone Thread.

This wasn't really meant to take off.:o

It was more about old school stuff. Just plugin and hit record. Thats what I like to hear most. I like a bit of music left in..

I agree with you on that muttley, just press record and play. Straight ahead rock and roll.

No one is posting any clips! :cursing:

Here's me again. On electric :D

I don't think I have picked up an electric in over a year, so thanks for inspiring me to do so guys! Just a small little ditty I recorded. An 89 Strat deluxe plus going in direct.

Sounds good Crow. Did you track this three times? It sounds like three guitar parts. I like the sound of the rhythm guitar and lead, but the third guitar part in there just doesn't sound right to me. I would like to hear it just with the rhythm and lead.

yep. 3 parts. Just something I whipped up. Yeah, I was wondering if one of the leads wasn't really sitting right either.

one of those parts needs to move out.

Nice tone though.

That's a Strat? Very clean but not much Strat character. Which pickup?

I don't know if this fully qualifies for this thread but this track is an original from an open mic that I do. The keyboard player wrote it, the drummer and bass player know the song and it was only the second time I played it (which explains why he's telling me the changes at the beginning). I'm using a 61 brown face Princeton and an recently purchased Epiphone Dot. No pedals, just the tremolo from the amp.

The other tunes sounded great and I was hesitant to even upload it but what the hell.

that's what's good about the tone threads ...... they're not about playing ..... just toans.
Your playing is fine BTW, but for beginners and such this lets you post tones .... get feedback on them, and not have to worry about snotty remarks on your playing.
We do, however, say what we think about the tone itself.

I couldn't tell a lot about your tone because of it being masked by the band.
But to me it sounded ok, .... a little bit buzzy sounding.
How high did you have that amp cranked?
Pretty high I'm thinking if a Princeton was keeping up with a band .... or trying to.

A '61 Princeton ....... now there's a desirable amp!

The place we do this in sucks for sound and only vocals go through the PA. I used a Zoom H4n to record it and it was right in front of the band. Just used the built in condensers. The amp was probably at about 6 or 7 but the rhythm parts were choked back on the guitar (probably half way) and I was strumming using lots of flesh from the sides of my fingers to fatten up the tone without muddying up the output. I usually go to the neck pickup to solo but I don't think I did that here. I think I just used a pick and plucked harder during the solo to give it some dynamics when everybody picked up the volume. Check out "I Can Get Off On You" on the page too. I'm using a late 80's Squire Strat, a DigiTech RP-1000 and a Fender Champ 12.

re the amp, my buddy said if I could fix it I could use it whenever I want (as long as when he wants to use it I get it to him). It cost me a case of Beck's to fix all the electronics (a different friend hooked me up with that) and $30 for a speaker. Everyone that comes to the jam loves that amp! As do I.

Thanks Bob, I appreciate you taking the time to check it out.

It's an 89 strat deluxe plus with lace sensor pickups (which may be the reason why it sounds a little different.) I used the neck pickup.

OK, now some Strat love. This is just a spontainious jam I did when doing a headphone soundcheck (and tape was rolling). It's a American Strat, neck pickup into an amp I made.

Listening to your clip as I type Track Rat.....very nice clean Fender tone here man, sounds great. I love when I'm just playing/jamming & something like this happens, great that you caught it on "tape"......Again, sounds great!!!

CrowsofFritz: On the playing/arrangement, I think one of the parts does need to be dropped, but tone wise, this sounds really good. Would work in a mix really well......On the Lace Sensor p'ups, I had a '94 Tele Plus II, & it had a blue in the neck, with a red humbucker in the bridge, with a coil tap. You sounds here remind me of how that guitar sounded.....Cool stuff!!!!!
