2488 for live recording

Hi All,
A couple things, I have been using my 2488 to record my band live and have really been enjoying it. Is anyone else using it for that purpose? Only drawback is you can record only 8 channels at a time but it works for us. I was thinking of running a small mixer for the drums mics and that would allow me to record more channels, anyone do that before?
Also, there used to be a tascamforums.com site did it go away?

Hi Alan,
Ideally I will have four mics on the drums, kick, snare, toms and cymbals. Because of the 8 channels however I mic the following (we are a 4 piece and all sing fyi)
Lead guitar + vocal
Rhythm guitar + vocal
Bass + vocal
Kick drum + vocal

I do pick up a lot of the drums through the other mics but would like to have each drum have their own channel for tweaking on a DAW. I do have a small Peavey 4 channel that I think would do the trick...thoughts on setup?

You could put the whole kit through the mixer into 1 channel, but you will need to experiment with the levels. You could give it a few trials at a rehearsal and note the levels and eq on the mixer for the gig.

Or you could try this:

All Vocals to mixer, use a prefader send to submix them to 1 channel of the 2488 via the prefader send out. Don't forget to leave the mixer faders off.
Lead guitar to 2488
Rhythm guitar to 2488
Bass to 2488
Kick to 2488
Snare to 2488
Overhead left and right and maybe toms to mixer and pad accordingly left and right from the mixer left and right outs to the 2488.

This way you get a better chance of getting a good drum mix.

You do need to get the vocal levels mixed correctly at the gig, you also need a mixer with a prefader aux.

I have a mixer that has sub mixes and also eight aux outputs for the first eight channels. I have an 8 channel snake that I run from those aux outputs to the 2488 which works well. I have thought about doing the vocals to a submix like you have said and you are right about getting the levels right.
