We have Presonus Firestudio Project interface. When we first bought it we had some issues with updating drivers for Windows 7 but techsupport finally got us through it. Kids used for about 6 months. Didnt use it for about 3 months and then all of a sudden when they tried to use it again it wont work. I can plug the interface in and it will sync up and the light turns constant blue after about 10 minutes. However every time it finally completely syncs up the computer and/or mouse freezes and we cant do anything on computer. I have tried tech support several times and they are no help whatsever. They have crappy tech support hours and then when I finally got a hold of them they just said it must be the unit send it back and we will repair for $80.00. I think the unit is working ok or it wouldnt have power or sync up I would think. Does anyone know anything about this?

This is exactly why I won't trust Windows with my recording. We used to use Sonar Producer Edition with a Presonus Firestation/Firepod combo and ALWAYS had trouble with the thing. Loaded up on OSX, works perfectly.

Anyhow, it sounds to me like a driver issue. The Presonus drivers SUCK.

Can you list your computer specs please?

I don't understand why you have a go at Windows for it at the start. It is indeed a PreSonus problem.
It could well just be something went wrong inside. Especially if it has been working fine for months. If it is still in warranty, just get a replacement from where you bought it, as it shouldn't cost you a penny. If not, then the $80 fix is really the best option for you.

Because of the drivers, driver conflicts, etc... It's a combination of the Presonus programmers and the mess that is Windows.

I'm not against Windows entirely. Just not for recording. That's not taking a shot at Windows at all. I think it's a great OS for consumer usage. I do not like it for a server system, I think Linux is better suited. I don't like it for recording, video editing, photo editing, etc, I think OSX handles those tasks far better.

But for playing some games, web browsing, watching movies, listening to movies, email, word processing, CAD, general office usage, etc, I think it works very well.

Back on topic, though, disable all services after a fresh boot. Make sure all other programs do not load. Google "disable programs/services on windows startup" that will make sure no unnecessary drivers are loaded. Plug in the interface after you have done this. Then enable what you need 1 by 1. You shouldn't need anything, though.
